tough choice
i love the interior and exterior of the si, but i'm starting to consider the gti. the lack of torque in the si has me worried, and 197hp isn't exactly something to brag about. then theres the ms3 which looks even worse than the gti, but is faster.

I really wish I could have gotten the GTI, its such a nice car but the problems down the road with VW are something to consider.
Honda and their reputation for quality is very reputable, it may seem that the 8th gen civics have problems, but they are minor (rattles, squeaks etc) things that will annoy you, but easily fixable with little effort. |

Drove the GTI, did not like it - torque is not everything.
Drove the MS3, did not like it - see above comment Drove the Si, drove it home. Quote:
When it comes from a 2.0L turbo (like the GTI) it is not.... |

when I was buying my car, I was debating between 3 cars. which was Acura RSX type S, VW GTI (auto), Honda civic si. The reason I chose si, its bcuz I knew I will look back and regret If I gotten a GTI. GTI is nice car and fast but its too much girly for my taste. and for type S, dealer told me not to buy it since they gonna discontinued the product. well, bottom line is, If you wanna be a man, get a SI

my dad drives an 06 GTI (i have an 07 SI sedan), and while i am impressed by it, i did chose an si over it. The GTI has a sweet power band, and because of that feels faster in everyday driving. the overall handeling feel of the car is very sporty, but just not quite like the feel of the SI. the same thing goes for the shifter. I always thought the GTIs shifts were very smooth and quick untill i got my SI, which is at a diffrent level. And last of all the look. the when i think of the GTI's design, the best adjective i can think of is turdy, especially compared to the the sleak lines of the SI.
all this being said, i think if you are older and want a more conservative but sporty car(my dad exactly), the GTI is probably your better choice, but if your a teenager like me who appreciates good natured aggresive driving and wants a car that will turn a few more heads, by all means get the SI |
