Got 1000km on my SI

Well i finally got the 1000kms on my 06 Si. I took it out today and man does this car go. It gets to over 6000rpm and just screams at you. On thing that did concern me was that i stopped at a red light, i put the clutch in and shifted into 1st gear and the car grinded. I dont know why this happend at all, i had the clutch in and the car was stopped. Has anyone noticed this problem in thier si's? I also noticed that if im driving down the road and i see and red light and let go of the gas to let the car slow down to about 25km put the clutch in and put the car into N and coast at like 14km and then the light turns green, when i go to put it into 1st it doesnt go easily so i just end up going into second and driving off. What i guess im trying to ask is, can you shift the car back into 1st gear if the car hasn't come to a full stop or slowed below a certain speed? Once i've stopped the car or am coasting at like 5km/hr it will shift into 1st fine. I dunno, i've checked the manual and this is my first car that's a standard.

1st gear has a lock out if your going to fast to put it in 1st. 2nd gear is where your suppose to be in that situation.^^

Blip the throttle before shifting to first. What I mean is If there resistance let go of the clutch give some throttle, then clutch in and switch to first.

Yep, just what he said, you're gonna need to rev match if you're going into first if the car is rolling at all. If there's still resistance when you're at a full stop, blip the gas and then slide it into first. :)

I like the whole resistance thing. It makes me feel safer when throwing it up into third. I don't have to worry too much about going back into first and hurting the engine or anything like that.

Silver8th is right. You should never want/have/need/try to downshift into 1st. When you are coming up to a stop, keep it in 2nd and then clutch in and use the brakes. Once stopped, shift into 1st and get going again.

When I am driving normally (around town, just going to the store), 1st gear is only used to get the car rolling. As soon as I hit 1700 - 2000 RPM, I throw it into second. I have never downshifted into 1st gear...ever.

You too eh =) I broke 600 mi yesterday, and floored it to 8k RPM, WOW. Has this load throaty growl. I turned off my music since the engine sounded much better.

Yeah in general I never downshift to 1st. Heck, on normal roads I start at 2nd gear.
