I never actually knew the exact mechanism by which the second cam lobe was activated. All I ever knew was that it engaged a second cam by utilizing oil pressure. Pretty cool imo.

Off-topic: I love how the comments in streetfire always revolve around domestics vs. imports. More often than not, it's people criticizing Hondas as being slow cars.

true, but it just seems every time he has information/advice (which, to his credit, is normally good and accurate) he's condescending in the way that he does so. and i think that MrPanther's intentions to inform GGSi or others who obviously know what vtec is, but rather help explain it, via animation, to those new to honda and (i)vtec and have no clue what it is, other than it sounds cool. personally, prior to my mom's purchase of her 04 rsx-s, i had no clue what it was, just new it made the car sound badass and gave it that extra ooomph, so i looked it up and learned myself, and was amazed. sorry to come accross as a **** myself in my previous post, it was just the first thing i saw when i woke up this morning. cheers

Yes, I knew it was a cam lobe before watching that video. I do understand the interaction between cam lobes and valves. Just noticed my typo in my other post.

Actually the lobes are called simply "cams". The whole unit that rotates is a "camshaft".

Sorry guys, I know I can be condescending at times, I just tend to forget what it was like to be just starting out in the car hobby, especially hondas. I used to hate those guys who would make it difficult for you when you are just trying to learn, and sometimes I fear I've become one. I know, I just need to have more patience. Once again, sorry to all that I might have made feel bad or stupid. I know what it's like to be in your shoes.
