My Nighthawk Black Si with pictures

hello all. i'm brand spanking new here, on account of my recent acquisition of a FG Si.

i don't want to beat a dead horse here, and i'm not a bandwagon jumper, but here goes....

the car is amazing. there, i said it. it has such a flat torque curve, and pulls from a standing start with a convincing oomph. you'll swear you were in a rear-wheel drive.

the steering feel takes little time to get used to if you've driven an Si before (i've had an 87 Si and a 2000 Si and i felt immediately at home). there are a few reviews online that complain of ambiguous steering feel, but it's just not the case, especially when you become "one" with the car on an exhilirating series of curves.

the shifter is bloody slick. it is such a joy to put the car through each and every gear, and you're rewarded each and every time with an uncanny connection with the vehicle; every manual transmission should feel so good.

the helical limited slip diff... oh. my. god. you know it's good when you're taking off-camber 20 kph turns at 50 kph and have complete confidence in the car's traction. in a word... it digs. again, you'll swear this was a rear wheel drive. throw the car into the corner, and it digs. punch the throttle, and it digs harder.

designwise, i'm extremely pleased with the car. the rear and sides remind me of a mini-g35, while the front fascia is distinctively honda. of course, everyone will have his or her own opinion, but according to this guy, pictures do not do the Si justice. it must be seen to be truly admired.

there are some flamewars going around on other message boards claiming the Si isn't on par with its direct competition, namely the Chevy Cobalt SS and the Saturn RedLine. in a straight line, the argument is valid. the Si will not obliterate every car on the road from a red light; it will hardly even spin its drive wheels. even with this in mind, i have absolutely no reservations in recommending this car to any driving enthusiast. the Si has something truly lacking in the aforementioned cars: soul. ok, i see the eyebrows go up, "but it's a bloody honda, for christ's sake".

do yourself a favor and take one out for a test drive, and discover what it means to have a completely responsive vehicle. one that has an almost telepathic ability to sense exactly which way you want to push it. enjoy putting the shifter through all six gears. enjoy the pull in the optimal range. enjoy outcornering your friends.

and without further ado, the pictures:

Finally....somebody with an Si that's NOT silver.

Looking good. I'm right behind you with my Nighthawk. Makes me happy I didn't order Fiji Blue.

It is funny you should say that. The G35 is my "wish" car, and one of the many reasons I bought my Civic Coupe. The first day on the lot, my wife called it my "mini G", and I knew I had to have it. Now don't get me wrong, I have had three Hondas before (incl. two Civics) and that is what got me to the lot in the first place.

Kudos on your new ride. The Si in Nighthawk Black is just beyond sweet. I am not sure if you can get away with it, but I ditched every dealer tag on mine the first day, including the front liscense plate. The plate was easy to take off and it is in my trunk, just in case. And don't even get me started on the damn dealer stickers they brand the ass with above the model. If they want to advertise their dealership on my car, then pay me, otherwise get the crap off of it.

Sorry for the soap box paragraph there. Again congrats!!!

well, thanks for all the kind words, guys.

i was originally thinking fiji blue (i think it's the most popular color on the internets ) but my old 87 Si (The Beast) was black, and it's just such a menacing color. i couldn't be happier!

sinsinati, regarding the miniG, thank god someone believes me! without your validation, i was feeling like something of a crazy person! and yeah, the dealer tags piss me off. i'll be replacing the license plate holders soon, and wanted to find a place to remove the "happy honda" decal from the back. ugh. dealerships.

i'll post more pics when i have time to take them!

cheers!

The black looks great. Great review and pictures. The cornering on mine is also the best part of the driving experience.
