What gives? (why so many regrets?)
I have noticed many people around here complaining about and/or regretting their purchase of the 8G (Si or otherwise). I have never seen so many "I regret buying this car" threads in ANY of the forums I participate in (most of them are model specific). What makes people regret buying the 8G?
Is it an age thing? Do the people regret because they didn't really shop around but instead just bought the first thing they saw? Did people not test drive other makes/models to see what else was out there? I have owned my car for almost three months (only 6 more days) and it makes me smile everytime I see it parked in the garge (much less when I drive it). Maybe I like my FA5 so much because I drive a 91 Integra everyday to work to save my FA5 from the trauma of door dings. Maybe it is because I owned a Subaru for 6 years that had MANY problems and cost way too much to own. I just don't get it... I test drove only a few cars (06 CRV EX, 06 Fit Sport, 03 CL Type S 6MT, numerous STIs, and a Legacy GT) and the first time I sat down and drove an FA5, I knew I had found MY car. I have only thought a few times that I should have been more serious about the LGT, but then the folder with all of the Subaru work on my desk reminds me that I am VERY happy to be back behind the wheel of a Honda as my fun car... yes... I am a proud FA5 owner... even with my neon orange racing wheels!

I think often times people only post when they have a problem to complain about or try to get fixed.
I mean, if I had a lemon you would see me starting threads asking for help, and asking why honda let me down. Fortunatly thats not the case though, although I've never really driven a non-honda, so I don't know what to compare my Civic (Si sedan) to. I mean, sure, 3rd gear isn't always perfect, and the paint and plastic are far from bulletproof, but overall I'm very happy with it. Its quick, but not so fast as to get me killed, and the handling is great. Plus its a car that can grow with me, there is so much aftermarket support that its easy to change your car when you want to go beyound stock. I could not have bought a better first car. oh yeah, plus its got VTAKKKKKKKKKKK ![]() btw, I also test drove a used RSX-S, new impreza, new fit, and A/T civic, and I learned on my dad's V-6 accord ('05) and s2k ('05), but for a daily driver that can always make you grin when you hit some twisties above 6k nothing beats the Si. |

Having owned other Honda's I knew that the Si was for me!! But, yeah I did research this and other cars (Sti, Types-S, Cobalt SS, etc) prior to purchasing the Si... I'm very pleased with her and do see her in the family for a very long time!! Considering the: cost, quality, reliability, performance, and just "plain a$$ sexy" I'm happy with the Si!!

I think the reason that many folks, including myself complain about the 8th is because Honda cut a lot of corners. In addition, the expectation for the 5th best selling auto brand in the U.S. is pretty high especially high.
So when you have really cheap paint on a car with an OTD price of $19,000-$27,000-well you've got a license to bitch til you turn blue. I like my 4dr LX but there are aspects that could use a huge improvement; things that some competitors wouldn't tolerate. Folks aren't complaining so much about the 8th's reliability or performance as the quality control. It really needs work. TexasK20Z, you're still in the honeymoon stage with your Honda. Give it some time and your opinion might change. In the mean time, enjoy your ride. |

And I hate to be the bearer of bad news... but $17K-22K is really in the low end of car prices and other companies suffer from the paint problems... it is thanks to the EPA, not the manufacturers... :)

A lot of the complaints are also for really simplistic things such at rattling. Im not trying to put anyone down. But it is expected in a cars first couple years with a new body style and engine design, to have problems. If you cant handle these small problems then trade it in. Thats one more 8th Gen somebody else can enjoy.
But the paint issue does piss me off. |

sometimes i have regrets - like should i have bought another S2000 or gotten the STi? Then I remember why I bought the Si - value, reliability, newer model, style and fun to drive. That combination won me over. The S2000 was looking a little older and I knew I'd kick myself for having a car that was styled back in the late 90s. I was unsure about the reliability of the STi and that thing looks hideous to me. The Si encompasses many aspects that other cars just don't have.

Yeah they are all just a bunch of whiners. They need to go buy an american car and see how good we have it!!! (j/k I know some of you have had serious issues, but most of you are just whiners)I love my FG and everytime I drive it, I get a grin on my face as well. I can never remember I day when I didn't look forward to driving my car. 49,000 + Miles later I'm still a very happy customer!!! |

All paint scratches, all cars rattle, and all domestic cars are much worse IMO. I work at a dealership that sells Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Pontiac, Buick, and GMC, so I have a real opportunity to shop other brands. I feel that Honda wins hands down, especially the Civic, that is why I bought one.

The paint problems are not unique to Honda... hell my Subaru was just as bad. The issue with the paint is because the EPA requires companies to use less solvents in the paint during the manufacturing process. If you have a problem with the paint, stop spending money on mods... save up a bit and have a real paint shop repaint the front end. I had the front end of the Impreza repainted (well, actually, some dude tried removing my front bumper with his car) and after the repaint, I did NOT have any chip problems.
