Future of hybrids; 80 mpg and 0-60 in 4.5 seconds?
http://www.hybridcar.com/news/in-the...onomy-qed.html
"he MINI QED Electric Hybrid as it is aptly named; is game up for hybrid naysayer's, delivering sprinter performance the Mini QED Hybrid goes 0 – 60mph in 4.5sec, while offering super car speeds of up to 150mph. The electric only operation time, often limited in other hybrids, is a long-lasting 5 hours commute at 50mph or less. For motorway driving, the small petrol engine and generator kicks in without draining the batteries. The real convenience of the Mini QED Electric Hybrid is that it doesn't need to be plugged in every night; off course you can plug it in for a quickie recharge as often as you like, which is handy if you do a lot of city driving. Still not convinced! Well take a look at the fuel economics; the MINI QED reportedly achieves 80mpg when powered by the generator, yes that's 80mpg." |

The super hybrids and useful plugin electrics are coming.
I would have bought a HCHII if it would have came with a 5 or 6 MT tranny and NOT a CVT. And then the 1930's rear drum brakes. And whats up with all that auto climate control? Just turn the engine off when Im at a light for god's sake. Maybe throw the auto climate control in with the navi system as there already breaking it off in you if you get the Navi. As battery tech advances. I hope to own a plugin or super hybrid before I die. The internal combustion engine is getting very long on the tooth. psy |

when cars start coming with brushless electric motors.... WATCH out
i used to be into nitro r/c cars and they're quick.... (40,000 rpm redline FTW - im serious!) and on a r/c message board people would have brushless motored electric cars.... FAST, faster than most gas cars.... just imagine 0-60 in 3 seconds but with no noise..... ill miss the sound of vtec though haha

From the article:
Why are major manufacturers not putting more emphasis on in-wheel electric drive systems? Probably because of the (high) costs involved: The vehicle development will continue for some time, especially in the area of engine / fuel options and GPRS services and features. Today, this electric vehicle conversion incorporates the very best drive system technology available anywhere in the world. The technology costs would make it a rather expensive car, I'd think. As a conversion / demonstration vehicle though, it's pretty cool. |
