Unhappy I might have to sell my Si :banghead:

Well, some of you here know that I am attending NMSU in the fall... well, I took a good hard look at my financial situation, and I might have to let my baby go... I LOVE her to death, and I love being a part of the 8th civic community, but, seeing as how she costs me $401 per month in payments + $128 in insurance, I might have to sell her, since I will be a student again, and although I COULD work like 25 hours a week, I don't really want to. I want to enjoy the college life, and besides, I need time to study and do homework. I do have a couple options... I have about $12,000 in my savings account (emigrantdirect.com FTW, baby), and I could pay that into the loan and refinance, but, it would probably only drop my loan payment amount by $200 or so. Plus, my interest rate would go up. I got an excellent deal through honda financial, and I only pay like 1.3% interest (not sure about the exact amount, but it's pretty low). My savings account pays 5.05% interest, so that's why I haven't paid more toward the loan. UGH I am TORN UP about this. What would you guys do? Currently, I am thinking I will just sell the Si and buy a nice '96-00 civic sedan or hatchback, and enjoy no car payment, + low liability only insurance. Someone, stop me please.

If you HAVE to do it, then that's what you have to do. An education should always come first. I would say, try every single option before selling.

That is my reasoning. I am afraid that if I have to work like 25 hrs+ then my grades will suffer... I will absolutely freakin' shoot myself in the head if I get a C in a class. I'm not the suicidal/depressive type, but seriously, one time I got a C on a math midterm and had a good 10 minute cry in my Si. Maybe that makes me a pussy (I don't really care), but I just feel like a total failure if I don't perform well in a class. How many others here are in school with a civic payment?

I work 20-30 hrs a week when I'm in school and make's dean list. But I started college when I was a Jr. in HS so I guess I'm one of those kids... but hey man do what you gotta do. School and Education should be your Number 1!!! Your civic isn't going to put a roof over your head and food on the table

^you are right. Selling. I think I will ask $19,800. Flawless body and interior, factory Nav, 17,800 miles, HFP rims. Not gonna sell it on here though... autotrader most likely, and not for 3 months or so...

Tell you what... if you sell it, and graduate, you can get a job paying wayyyy more and get yourself a brand new Si, fully decked when it's all said and done with. Then again, you may take a hit in your resale value, and certain things like taxes are always lost.. if you've really crunched the numbers and it's simply impossible, you know what you have to do... as sad as it is.

If I could be a full-time student and work a full-time job. Enjoyed the parties life w/ fraternities and friends. You could do it. My car payment around 450, so don't cry....

If you a lazy person. That can't handle the pressure and stress. Take the easy way. Sale your car.....etc...etc.

Cars are probably the worst invesment you can make so I think you have other things that should come first before a nice car payment.

If you can handle it, keep the ride and work and go to school, that's my current situation but I do see what you mean about the lowered performance in school (i'm tired as hell and have to go to a class right now).

But, you do have a great interest rate on your car and when you decide to buy a house in the future or get a loan, you'll have solidified your credit roots through the auto loan. Nothing looks better than an auto loan paid off on time.

I'm working 30 hours a week and going to school, only 3 classes this semester though. Anyways, I'm handling it well, besides my physics class.

Sell the car, focus on education and it'll pay off in the future. I'm a student as well and purchasing the Si was just not an option for me, especially when you've got to factor in your annual tuition costs.

Anyways, do the right thing!

Ditch the Si, you'll have plenty of money and time to get another one, or something even better, in just a few years. I had to work through college to pay for tuition and living expenses and it really burned me out.

this is my third year of college first year with a car payment, worst year grade wise.. i bought my car last july while working part time and getting paid trash. they promoted me twice and made me full time (32 hours a week) so i make a half way decent pay check.. the problem is i go to school 4 days a week (15 credits)and i work 5 days a week. when i'm not working i'm at school, when i'm not at school i'm working.. i have little time to get any school work done.. hell i'm on spring break now and i'm working more than doing all the school work that i have to do.. i have to pay for too many things so i can't see not working to enjoy the "college life." that's just how it is, i've been working since i was 14.. i'll be working till i'm 50, i just accepted it.. good luck with your decision..

Let me tell you something from what I did in highschool.

School from 7-4. work from 5-10, homework from 11 till 2 am. Repeat.

Notice those 1 hour gaps?

Yeah, that was time spent cruising around in my old Lude.

I look back now, and I don't regret a moment of it.

Sides, friends can wait till the weekend.

keep the Si, just pay it off asap.
