Heads Up!!

i know it has been discussed before, but for all the people who do not check....check your oil often when you first get your Si. I have ~1500 miles on my Si, and i decided to check the oil when i got home. To my surprise hardly any is showing up on the dipstick. I wanted to give a heads up for any of the non-believers CHECK YOUR OIL, and check it often. Thanks to those of you on the boards that suggest checking it all the time, i honestly had no idea the kinda of oil consumption that has taken place during the first 1500 miles.

***Update*** I called my Honda dealership and talked to a service guy, and explained the entire situation to him. He confirmed what everyone else already knows (this car eats oil especially intitially). He did say that two quarts seems like alot, but he has actually seen this much consumption before. My oil level is between the two holes now on the dipstick which is in the normal range. I will keep my eye on it since i know it isn't leaking anywhere (at least nothing is showing up on my garage floor), and if i need to add this much again before my first oil change bring the car in.

Summary of entire two pages.......Check your oil and often especailly during the first 5,000 miles you may be surprised at how much is consumed.

~1300 miles and hasn't used a drop and I've been giving it a controlled beating since 55 miles...guess I got a good one.

i know i shouldnt have to say this, but make sure that when your checking your oil that your on a level surface. if your parked at an incline then it will show that you are low on oil when you really are not.

Don't worry it is in my garage which is as flat as it gets. I am a little concerned though. I put 2 entire quarts of oil in this thing now and it still appears to be a little low. I am somewhat confused as i thought maybe a quart or so low, but over 2 quarts low might need to call honda on this one. If someone can chime in on a similar expierence that would make my rest much better tonight.

You've got a real f'in problem if you've put 2 quarts of oil in the car and it still reads low. Either your car is fvcked up real bad or you don't know what you're doing.
*no offense intended, honest

wow, lucky, ummm... controlled beating, have you been beating your car with the dipstick?

btw, you should check level when the oil is warm right? because when its cold my level is a little low

when its warm its right below full, maybe I should spoon feed my civic some oil to get it back up to full

guys i really appreciate your comments, but i have been working on/around cars for over 10 years. I am no mechanic, but i can hold my own. I want comments on the problem itself, it is nothing i have done. The surface is flat, the oil is warm, car was turned off for 5-10 mins before i checked it right after a 50 mile round trip.

Thanks

Unless you're joking about checking the oil when it's warm, you really DON'T know what you're doing. Oil is ALWAYS checked cold and on a level surface.

I waited for a while before i checked the oil to let it cool down, but not as in first thing in the morning cold that is not the answer.

Well you got real problems from what you're saying and it's one or the other, sorry to say. You need to take it in pronto since you're convinced you're checking and filling it correctly.

Maybe a pic so the skeptics (and the confused) can take a look at how the level reads?

The majority of the oil should have drain down into the oil pan after 5-10 minutes.

It is no suprise that a new vehicle burns a bit of oil while the rings and components seat themselves. However, two quarts is a bit excessive. I would keep an eye on the level carefully. Engine failure due to low oil conditions is technically an "Owner neglience" and not covered by Honda...unless the dealership forgot to tighten the drain plug or oil filter...
