C&D has REALLY been downing the Si lately.
"The Sentra SE-R Spec V edges the Honda Civic Si on turn-in, power, ride comfort, and overall livability." I was also reading on their website about the 10 fastest cars $20,000 to $25,000, and even though the slowest couple cars had same 1/4 mile times (as other mags that tested the si, even though C&D could only muster a 15.1 meh) as the Si, the Si is nowhere to be found. Also if you remember on their testing of sports cars at Road America (mind you if you have played the track in Forza Motorsports for the XBOX, R.A. is just a bunch of HUGE! straights followed by very fast corners, and a couple of very sharp ones) the Si was just verbally destroyed by the C&D editors. Why is it then that Mags like Motortrend, Road & Track, and Sport Compact Car have the Si at a higher mark than the GTI Mark V?! C&D seems to have a bone to pick with Honda or the Si no? Maybe I'm delusional. |

What's the point of having a test like that and not including any performance figures whatsoever? I guess I understand it being a preview and all, but if you're driving the car why not do all of the tests?
Ohh well. I still wait. Nissan claims a lot of power on all of their cars but those numbers never show up. I'm curious to see if this version of the Spec V dynos anywhere near the 200 crank horsepower mark they are advertising. I see the car being a pretty serious competitor if it does make that power, though. |

If the Spec V really edges the Honda Civic Si on turn-in, power, ride comfort, and overall livability, I have no problem with C&D stating that. All magazine editors have their opinion and their tests. I own an Si and I am not surprised on some of their remarks about the Spec V. It has more power and that's a fact. With the extra torque it's bound to take off quicker. And 4 doors do make it more livable, not to mention that the dimensions are greater as well. I still love the Si, but it's not perfect. I'm sure everyone who owns one have a few things they would like to change. Put it this way, atleast our Si is nowhere near the uglyness the new Sentra is!!!! Oh.....I still love the K20 more then any other 4 cylinder I have every driven. |

no really, everyone including C&D is entitled. however they praised the heck out of the si in the si vs gti comparo, stating if it was on performance alone the si wins out (not just the 1/4 mi in which the si lost by 2 tenths). i just wonder why virtually every other car magazine gives the si high merits in performance, and as of late, in the last 2-3 articles where the si was written about they have really said hardly a positive word about it. so really, it isn't JUST this article that gets under my skin, but really the sentiment as of late from C&D about the Si. i had a subscription to them for a year, and pulled it for motor trend, basically because i was noticing that they saw things more eye to eye with me, not just on the si but on quite a few other cars, and car issues. it seems the MT staff is just more palatable to my views, therefore i like them better. their editor in cheif angus mackenzie i have agreed with on 99% of his editorials and such. this thing with the si though, i just don't know how they praise the si so much on it's handling on their gti vs si article, then slam it on others. also, they have given tire options and other options to other cars, but they have yet to test an si with hfp options, such as the hfp suspension. (correct me if i'm wrong but they also have tested it with all seasons instead of summers, i'll check on that though). anyhow, just different strokes. EDIT: ok when the si pulled a .91g on the skidpad on the gti vs si article, it was wearing summer shoes. however, when the chassis was called "floppy" on the road america comparison article, it didn't have HFP suspension. also, "floppy" is worlds away from "Willing and unflappable chassis, dogged refusal to understeer, life beyond 6000 rpm, attractive base price." and "Any car that receives a perfect score in the fun-to-drive and handling categories is something we wouldn't kick out of the garage. But the Civic Si loses to the GTI for the same reason a Caterham will probably never win a comparison test" Last edited by Reliant K20Z3; 02-19-2007 at 08:57 PM. |

I would like to see the DVD that is coming out of this Spec-V being tested in Germanys Nurburgring in the nissan usa webpage just to see how the car will do in auto-x. Maybe in the next month or two the C&D mag will have a comparo, Spec-V vs Si sedan? Will just have to wait and see the results....probably from this article, they will crush the Si for sure.
