Six-piston calipers will be standard on the 135i coupe. This decision was on-again, off-again for cost reasons, but the final answer is that they will indeed be on the car when it goes on sale early next year.

• Navigation will be a stand-alone option on both the 135i and the 128i. While it is typically bundled on other models as part of a Technology Package, it will be offered as a single option on these models to keep costs down.

• Interior leather colors will include black, beige, light grey, red and terra. Red and Terra will only be offered with the Premium Package. There will be no cloth offered at all in America; the base upholstery will be leatherette in black, light grey or beige.

BMW will eventually offer a factory-replacement limited-slip differential under their performance products program recently announced. There are no plans to fit a limited-slip differential as a factory-fitted option.

• Pricing for the 1 Series will likely be announced at the Los Angeles auto show in mid-November, but the target price for the 135i is in the “mid-thirties” while the 128i in base form will come in under $30,000.

I think it's about the same size as the E36 3-Series. They keep growing bigger and bigger..

Looks like BMW took a foot out of the middle of the 3 series. I think it will look its best as a vert.

1-series spied again:

http://www.motortrend.com/future/spi...s_coupe_spycam

Really liking this idea. Liking the 'coupe' over the 'hatch' better. And more rumors on the I6 being base with the 3.0L TT engine as an option. I might just have to hold off on the 335I RHT I've got a deposit/order out on. Now this 1-series as a RHT (Retractable Hard-Top) would be 'dreamy'.

Sigh. I am such a car whore. Though T|X has me beat, lol.

I'm guessing it'll come with something similar to the 218hp N52B30 or the 300hp turbo version.

I dislike BMW, just on the principle that they rake in higher profit margins based on brand-name prestige alone. That, and parts/maintenance is much pricier than Honda. Not buying the "affordable BMW" mantra when the thing still costs $25-30k.

Heh, 'affordable' should probably never be used as a descriptor for BMW...unless you happen to be sitting next to a Vantage, or some other such cap car.

I'm more interested in getting the TT 3.0L in a lighter package than the 3 series. Particularly since the RHT adds 'just a tad' (read: sarcasm) to the weight.

They can charge what they do because people will pay it. All car companies do that. They build a car, and whatever works out to the most profits (either a lot of people buying the car for a little less or a few less buying for a little more) is what they charge.

I owned a e36 325i for four years, and I have to say it was a hell of a car. I liked the feel of it more than the Si. It was just getting up in the miles and was having a few problems after a wreck.

Pure speculation but it would be nice to see the old M3 motor back in action in this 1 series. Since the M3 is hauling a V8 now I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to throw a 6 cyl back into the mix.

Not saying what they're doing is wrong (it obviously works very well for them), I'm saying their whole angle of catering to automotive purists w/ the 1-series is a farce. It's still something that young urban professionals will hurl themselves headfirst into, so that they can show off to their friends how upscale they look whilst having their iPhone connected and listening to the latest from iTunes.

BMW is no longer about the driving experience and more about how you look driving one, IMO. That isn't to say the cars don't deliver a great driving experience--but that has become secondary to the Armani-swathed consumerism that's attached to the branding of the car.

Among the ppl I know who drive a BMW, there's only one that would even take a remote risk of gunning it in the twisties. The rest like to look spiffy in them while cruising to the local Whole Foods.

I pretty much agree. Maybe it's just a Cali thing, but here BMW and Benz is just a status symbol. Most of the drivers are pricks who will never use the performance offered in these cars. I personally think they are overpriced, but to each their won. I supose living near LA and seeing every other motherfing car be a BMW or Benz has really killed it for me...I'd just go for an Evo or Sti for the performance or an Acura/Lexus/Infinity if I wanted luxury...simply better priced...

That is why the potential for the 335i/535i twin scroll engine to be in the 1 series coupe is exciting for me. Perhaps a return to 'the ultimate driving machine (with a bit less smirking when that is said). Smaller than the 3 series, gobs of HP/TQ, perhaps some nice suspension bits. Though I held out for the RHT in the 335i...I might have to hold out to see if this becomes available in a RHT.

I've been down the G35C route already. My lexus dealer here is never getting my money. Bastards. (Long story)

Wow this thread is still going? I haven't been on 8thcivic in months and I'm surprised this is still going.

I haven't seen any 1-series yet, BTW.

Come out with a modern 2002, and maybe I'd think about looking at a BMW. Until then I'll just be happy with
