The promotional video shows a 6 speed gearbox, and the official press release from BMW gives a nice rundown of what will be included, although it doesn't say anything about mpg. I've read in several places now that it will be a hand-me-down from the 335i coupe, so I would guess that would be an accurate place to start to look, although it seems as if this will have a more aggressive tune considering they're targeting the sport compact market with the 135i.

Also, it seems as though they're already testing a convertible:

the 135i should only be about 200lbs lighter, but comes with 18" standard wheels...EPA estimated are based on standard equipment only, the 335i comes with 17" wheels standard and only 18" as an option.

its also more likley itll come with more agressive tires that could hurt MPG as well, where as the 3 series tires are probably meant for low road noise and tread life.

I would recommend waiting for that car. I've driven the 335 coupe and the engine is out of this world. Moreover, there are a few reliable turners offering upgrades to the computer that really kick up the boost.

Yeah vinshu(sp) reflash to untune the detune with intake and exhaust you are looking at 400hp.

They may be larger wheels, but I would need to know about the weight before I made a prelim guess on how they will affect fuel consumption. When I switched to 18s they were significantly lighter than the stock Si wheels, and even with the better rubber, my mpg didn't change.

Although I do think it safe to assume that they will be heavier than the 335i's 17s... at that point it all comes down to gearing and the extra 200 lbs saved.

The 1 Series will bow at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with North American sales planned in the spring of 2008. Pricing is still a ways off, but expect the 128i to come in somewhere around $26,000 or so, with the 135i some $5,000 more.
If this pricing ends up being close to accurate, it will be the best bang for the buck that you could possibly imagine.

no sense... my driving skills made no sense.... i wanna see u drive a MT like a pro after staying 8 yrs away from it.
ur the one who went offtopic....

back to topic : a 2 door compressed BMW 3 series = boring.... the car needs to have an all round package...... making it look like a 3 series... surely saved sum money......the only thing ur getting is the engine.

First will be over and behind first gear. Some GM's are behind fifth, Hondas are behing sixth. Every car maker is different but it's all a "normal tranmission".

this is actually how almost all european cars do it, and ALOT of GM cars from the 70s and prior did it in this position as well. one thing abou this reverse position is that it never changes if you have a 5th or 6th gear. besides, who the F cares its just a position.

Too bad its absolutely hideous exterior can't match its performance offerings...

Guess the carpet doesn't always match the drapes.

I'll take a 335i, please. Or maybe the new E92 M3 when it comes state-side.
