would this thing sell for 28? i doubt it. probably 33-35. for that price i'd rather have the new Z28 which will probably be right around 28 to compete with the rustang.

Which one, drr86, the hatch or the coupe?

I'm not much on the hatch, but the coupe I do like. Particular if they make a RHT version.

As for MSRP I would expect a tad lower than the 335i, but def not below $30K. Low to mid 30s maybe? (335i coupe is $40K'ish).

Bangle designs don't translate well to pictures. They're designed to be seen and enjoyed in person, not admired in print. Not the best business move, but it makes for some stunning cars.

I do think the main concern is if we get the engines they have in europe...11 seconds 0-60 is friggin' terrible... That said, the articles don't mention that.

I kinda like it, but, as others have said, BMW overprices stuff...good stuff, but overpriced.

I also agree with Mitch. Bangle cars are very nice when seen in person. One must just get used to that ultra-contemporary design. Seeing an M Roadster in person gave me a semi, and seeing the M6 in person made me have to cover it up with a hat and a cough to go to the restroom.

I've seen the Bangle cars in person, and most of them are still ugly as sin.

Edit: This one is no exception.

I saw this in the July 07 Car & Driver...The base engine will be the 230 hp version of the 3.0L six from the 328i...There will be a twin turbo inline six with 300 hp out of the 335i...but the 135i will weigh 300 lbs. less...MSRP will be 25K for the 128i and 35K for the 135i...

I don't know about the syling though...it's not bad but not great either...would have to see it in person...

i take it you dont see much euro cars... in europe, you can still get a 140hp 5 series. alot of the compact cars are around 60-70hp. euro = mammath gas prices remember..theres a VW you get there that gets 70MPG out of a gasoline engine.

BMWs high end stuff is pretty overpriced, such as 6 series and 7 series along with the X3/X5. everything else is pretty damn good. i mean cmon look at the TL-S...or older RLs....your in the 40 grand range for a front drive car.

ill say something about the bangle-mobiles however...while the only part i generally dont like about them is the rear end..i find it funny that Mercedes, Toyota/Lexus and Hyundai have been copying the F'ed up rear end look recently..but not that many people have copied much of the other elements...

I know about european cars, but as I said, I hope they don't plan on bringing that engine *here*. It may work in Europe, where there are cramped city roads that really don't requite even 70hp, but it won't work here.

I like it! In addition to my '06 Civic Si, I currently own two E30 BMW 325is's. One is 99% bone stock and the other is a race car. This 1-series reminds me of them. Small, fast, and nimble. And well-built, I hope.

BMWs aren't cheap but like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

I'm goddamn sold I swear. I read this and I was sold:

Quote:
"Now that we've got some official information to work off, we know that BMW will be debuting the 1-series in Frankfurt this September, with sales to begin in North America sometime in the spring of next year. We'll be getting two different versions -- a 128i and a 135i – the former producing 230 HP and 200 lb.-ft. of torque, while the latter, turbocharged mill will be making 300 HP (at 5,800 RPM) and 300 lb.-ft. of torque (at least). The 135i is obviously the range-topper and is the central focus of the press release, with performance stats that are truly impressive (0-62 in 5.3 seconds, 155 MPH top speed, 50-75 MPH in five seconds in 4th gear), placing it a step beyond the Porsche Cayman S for outright acceleration.

On the handling tip, the 1-series will have an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, keeping with BMW tradition, while MacPherson struts in the front and a five-link arrangement in the rear keep things suspended. Driving aids are included, but a variable diff isn't. Plus, 18-inch rollers are standard on all four corners, with 7.5 inches of width in the front and 8.5 inches of rubber in the back."
I'm thinking that the 135i will do the trick.
