Looks like a few of us will be buying the 135i, probably.

<--- may just have to as well, considering it's a driver's coupe.

135i, evo X, C6

The 135i and the Evo are even though, since the X looks amazing, but the 135 is from the company that makes the ultimate driving machine...

...I don't ever plan on owning a Vette, myself. Viper, maybe, but that would just be because it's a very vulgar car.

135i, C6, not really an EVO fan. Its not on the 'buying' list.

If

I would buy this car IF it have

- less electronics in it (especially if there is delete option for push start button crap)

- seats like si rather crapy heavy lether

-LSD and VSA option standard (21st century)

-pure sport car and keep the weight less as minimal-hopefully

-AWD option like 328xi

other than that its still nice to see a small car with big engine by bmw

BMW has technology MUCH MUCH better than VSA. Also screw the awd option, track cars are RWD...

really! im curious though have you ever driven some of the newer corvettes? (C5 or C6)

personally i love corvettes, they're like the Si... plenty of bang for your buck... my dad has owned 2 C5s and now owns a C6 converitble and a new Z06 so ive had plenty of driving experience with them but besides the impractical part - they're orgasmic to drive

I've been scrounging around teh internets for more information on the 135i and can't really find more than what has already been posted. However, I spent the weekend thinking about it. I'd happily sell off my aftermarket parts on my Si, sell the car in 4 months, drive my g/f's Civic or Jeep every day to work while saving money, and then drop a big down payment on the 135i when I can.

The only thing that is holding me back from doing the above is that I'm not sure if I want to part with my Si. Maybe a year from now, but not now. Although, planning for a 135i in 2009 might not be a bad idea...

BMW's traction control is WAY BETTER than VSA and incorpoarates a "brake lock differential" basically it mimics an LSD by braking the opposite wheel. if you do not go on a track and arent a uber pro driver, you will NEVER notice any difference in a RWD car. if you are, aftermarket LSDs have popped up for the 335i for around $1500, im sure itll be the same.

contradiction?

by the way, you do know that in the 328xi and 335xi the car is RWD by default and only gives power to the front wheels if teh back loose traction right?

Perhaps there should be a "Buying the 135i" thread to keep track of who is buying and when folks get it. Might be handy to keep track of folks that end up moving to other forums to keep in touch with each other.

If even 25% of those that say "I'm buying one" actually do so, it will end up being a fairly good number of folks.

I put myself up as I moved my deposit from a 335i RHT to an open-ended deposit on a 135i Soft-top...whenever they are made available. Hopefully not TOO long after the release of the coupe.

This is, of course, if I don't get impatient and just buy an IS350 first. (<--- What I was going to buy before a nostaligia moment for my old '85 Prelude Si got me to buy the 06 Si)

Guess I'm not a 'Vette fan. I like 'em enough, but I would never own one myself. I will agree for bang for the buck though, it's an awesome buy. For my money though, I'd rather save it and get the slower (and much more expensive) Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

Maybe he wants it for an area that gets a lot of snow. AWD may contradict the idea of a pure sports car, but a system that only uses the rear wheels until there's a traction problem could be useful in areas prone to poor weather. The extra 200 lbs is gonna hurt, though.

Germans have been driving in RWD cars in snow for a long ass time. AWD is for the ''average joe'' in snowy conditions. anyone who wants a ''pure sports car'' and demands a mechanical LSD, shouldnt want AWD because of traction problems in bad weather.

no problem man. idrive is a feature found on newer bmw models which engages an autodrive mode that takes the car directly to the nearest bmw service center. comes in handy.

instead of your radio and navi having a butload of buttons, you have one wheel and clicker to navigate it right behind the gearshift. its better for keeping your eyes on the road and hand close to the shifter, but people dont give it a chance to learn the system and bash it.

I agree a bit on that. I've driven a few C6s and an older '04 Z06. While they were powerful, fun, and great for throwing about, it is not a car I would buy over other offerings that I prefer.

I'd certainly take one for free Though I would, in most probability, sell it and get something I really wanted.

Besides, the insurance costs would kill me. The 135i is actually $60 less per month than my Si (as is the 335i and G35C).

Now, to be honestly fair, the first iDrives were a lesson in that sometimes minimalism makes things more complicated. Newer (the better ones) iDrive system actually features more buttons, ironically.

I will admit that buying anything with iDrive gives me a shudder from reviews and the one experience I had with it...but, the newer one on the 328i we were looking at was reasonably easier to use.
