Acura TL: What A Spec really is

Acura TL A spec

vs.

Base Acura TL

The ASpec moniker on some TL's denotes an appearance package available for the car which is not much unlike the HFP upgrades available for our Civics. For an additional $5000 on top of MSRP, the A spec kit adds: Front Lip, rear lip, side skirts, 18" performance wheels and tires, dampening kit, rear spoiler and a sticker. The automatic models recieve a performance brake pad upgrade as part of this package. NO power is added. No immense change in the handling occurs. Handling improves a little bit, the A spec suspension lowers the car by 30mm (1.2 inches).

I felt compelled to write this up because over the last 9 months, I've seen a few people referring to A Spec as if it was on par with the Type S TL and it's "power" was more noticable than stock. TL A spec has been thrown in various threads as a comparison against other cars for whatever reason. Thats sort of a pet peeve of mine.. It's pretty and it has better handling thats all. Like a new workout outfit and new running shoes.

Now, if someone really wants to use a TL as comparison against another car an they feel compelled to use an upgraded model then by all means use this bad boy:

The oh so lovely TL Type S
J35 motor with 286 bhp and 256 bhp.

if I had a spare $60000 CAD, a TL type S would be fun.

Nah, I'd just buy a used NSX for that price.

$60,000 CAD?!?!?!?! Oh My God! Thats insane. You know what? Just come down to the U.S., get yourself a hot american girlfriend, stick around for a while and buy one here for $38k. $60k CAD is like what? $45,000 american? That's sick.

MSRP 47,730.00 CAD (including delivery/pdi, but excluding other charges such as A/C tax, etc).

14% tax in Ontario for one of those suckers, so... $54412 CAD based exclusively on the MSRP.. so by the time you throw a set of winter rims/tires in (add another $1000 bare minimum) and a few accessories, you're pretty close to 60K..

yikes... double my Si's worth
