Gas thread Nazi

Solution to the 378 'What is your mileage' threads...

I am a self proclaimed gas thread nazi (well not really, another forum member said it first). I'll admit it. (Hi, my name is Rob and I am a gas thread Nazi).

Since the Giant Gas Thread seems to be failing (too much to read for the AD/HD generation), I suggest the following:

TWO STICKY POLL THREADS:

"DX/LX/EX R-18 ONLY: Your Gas Mileage"
With appropriate ranges (how they break up in the limit for the poll)

"SI ONLY: Your Gas Mileage"
With appropriate ranges (how they break up in the limit for the poll)

Actual mileage and comments could be posted in the thread body. In each thread a LINK would be provided to the other thread (R-18 in the Si thread, Si in the R-18 thread so appropirate owners post in appropriate threads. I know some folks won't read the titles and will cross post due to a lack of brain activity anyway, but it might keep it down to a minimum).

Any cross populated replies in these threads (i.e., an Si owner mistakenly posting in the R-18 thread) would be moderated (deleted) to maintain thread integrity.

This might help to stem the 3 or 4 time per week "Uh, what's your mileage...I've got bad mileage, what's yours?...EX owner curious about mileage..." threads from breeding like roaches AND actually provide concise, at-a-glance information on chart distribution model of reported gas mileage, BY MAJOR MODEL TYPE.

The main 'sticky' threads could be in The Garage, with a sticky in each "Civic Si" and "Civic Coupe And Sedan" subforum with a LINK referencing the main threads in The Garage.

(And it will stop my demeaning comments in those 'wonderful' new gas threads, an added bonus for those with sensitive feelings and special needs...joy)

Cookies are good

Looks like 12 categories for a poll. Mileage for the polls should be COMBINED mileage. City/HWY would be reported separately in the thread body.

Si Categories:

1: 12-14
2: 15-17
3: 18-20
4: 21-22
5: 23-24
6: 25-26
7: 27-28
8: 29-30
9: 31-32
10: 33-34
11: 35-36
12: 37+
(Yes, there are Si owners that get 37+ MPG, read a few of the ScanGuage threads, or Hypermiling threads)

DX/LX/EX

1: 15-17
2: 18-20
3: 21-23
4: 24-26
5: 27-30
6: 31-32
7: 33-34
8: 35-36
9: 37-38
10: 39-41
11: 41-43
12: 44+

Both are compressed in the middle range a bit for more detail in what seems to be the average range for each car (from the threads posted to date)

Is there a Hybrid gas mileage poll? If so, you should add that to your sig.

No Hybrid poll yet. We need to come up with good 'range' information. Also, I am not sure how many active hybrid owners are on the forums. But if we can get one going, I'll add it.

When looking at these poll result numbers... (in your mind) please include a small margin of error for those that tend to stretch the truth a bit. I'm sure most are pretty honest and know how to accurately figure their mpg!! :)

Okay, per GreenHybrid database reports most 'new' civic hybrid mileage ranges between 42 and 54 mpg, with small sigma trailings to either side of the bell curve. With that in mind perhaps:

1: Below 33MPG
2. 34-35
3. 36-38
4. 39-41
5. 42-44
6. 45-47
7. 48-50
8. 51-53
9. 54-56
10. 57-59
11. 60-63
12. 64+

I know we have at least a couple Hybrid owners that are active. And if they don't own it, their spouse does.
