EX sedan AT: 34.7 mpg, about 25% city, 75% highway. I'm usually travelling in the low 70s (mph) on the freeway. I haven't had to use the AC much at all here in San Francisco/Bay Area.

I've got the '06 LX AT sedan with just over 1,000 miles. So far I got 3 fill-ups averaging around 32-33 mpg. I drive mostly highway so was expecting to get something better, maybe at least 35 mpg or better. My last Civic (a 2001 LX manual) used to average around 37 mpg doing mostly highway. I do recall when I first got that car, the gas mileage wasn't on the high end but it did get better after putting more miles on it. The manual says the break-in period is supposed to be after 600 miles so I was hoping this last fill-up at 1000 miles was going to improve even slightly but it hasn't.

I guess I will wait a bit longer and see what happens.

I'm getting 34.7 mpg of mixed use city and freeway. It's mostly been freeway, though.
Most of the time I don't accelerate hard from a complete stop. I pull out at the same speed other cars do usually. Most of the time I'm floating around 2-3k rpm. It's about 70/30 for me highway/city driving. So far 21xx miles, I'm holding out hope I'll hit the 30's by the time I do my oil change at least.

It's probably due to your city driving. I'm averaging about 36~39 mpg for 85%+ freeway driving and I'm at 2.5k mi right now. I did exactly 40 mpg once (pumping at same statoin/nozzle) but that was with almost everything freeway except maybe 1 mi on local after doing 50 mi on freeway about 65 mph for the full tank. BTW I'm on 5MT.

I get 33-35 MPG mostly backroad driving, which is probably the best because you go around 50-55 MPH and don't stop that often. And generally when you do stop, you don't completely stop lol.

There is a guy over on 7thgen that went somewhere around 50+ miles when the light came on once. A few tanks later he tried the same thing and ran out of gas 29 miles after the light came on. Point is your fuel guage is just an estimate, don't try to make it out to be an exact thing.

I drove about 20 miles on the highway with no bars left a few days ago. Took 11.9 gallons to fill up. I usually fill up when I am down to 2 bars, and takes about 9.5 gallons to fill up.

Isn't it also a problem with the 7th gens that the gas nozzle jumps all over the place? I've read somewhere that people have had their nozzles JUMP (literally) from mid to E in a matter of seconds. Seems like the gas gauge (at least on the older civics) doesn't seem that reliable. And I've also heard it's bad to let your tank run completely empty, something about the engine has no fuel to burn so it burns something else but I may be wrong about this part.

I think you mean needle, you say gaz nozzle and I think of people filling their car up gas, the metal part at the end of the hose lol

Anyway, it's a problem not only in 7thgens, but most older civics. My last 3 trucks (2 chevy and now a Ford) have all had the same problem. It's not really something that is just isolated to civic's or Honda's.

I've got about a 50 mile round-trip commute, mostly 2-lane roads with several stop signs, average about 50mph.

Yesterday on the way to work, I had 3 or 4 bars in the AM. On the way home, it went to 0 bars - I drove at least 15 miles on no bars. Took 12.2 gal., 402 miles for 33 mpg average. Only have a little over 1K miles, AT LX sedan.

Yep. In my Jeep I just went by the distance travelled on the odometer. The gas gauge was never even close to right.

I've driven about 25 miles after all the bars were gone. Tank held 12.5 gallons at fill up.

My second tank I got 30, with 90 miles of it being hwy. I'm very happy with that. I came from driving a PT Cruiser that loved using gas. I couldn't squeeze 25 hwy from that gas hog. I figured for every dollar gas is, I will save $300 a year by driving the Civic, I average 15-16k per year. I had a 93 EX coupe that I loved. I'm very happy to be back in one and they are sooo much better now.

I just filled my 2006 Civic Hybrid. Got 43.6 miles per gallon this tank. Air temp makes a huge difference. Warmer it is, the better the mileage is.

I switched octanes from 87 to 89 and noticed a considerable hit in fuel economy. I went from averaging 34 mpg to 29 mpg. Looks like I'll be switching back to 87!

Interesting observation. My Honda VTX1800C runs way better on 87 as well. I'll stay with 87 in my 06 EX MT as well.
By the way, I'm getting approx. 40 MPG (Imperial Gal.) combined, with a 1000 miles on the odometer. Got it pretty much right from the start. Seems that some engines give big mileage and some don't.
