35mpg in the SI? I don't think that will be possible unless you start stripping the car down of some SERIOUS weight. Some people didn't even see 35mpg in their 06 civic (non SI).

Well one person posted they got 35 mpg out of their last tank in a 5sp LX. I coast ALOT, that probably has alot to do with why I was so high on my last car. My car has done alot of sitting with the heat on when I got 25mpg, so I'm thinking it's probably really up around 28mpg give or take. Well one can only hope, right? I'll post what I get once I'm thru break-in, I haven't exactly been try'n for good gas milage lately

Wow! I feel better. I now have something to look forward to.

This is my first Honda. I tried buying an end-of-the year '05 Civic EX M/T during last summer, but there was no way I was going to find anything but A/T, so I waited until the '06 came out. I'm so glad (except for a little inside windshield frost problem I had a couple of times that belongs in a different thread).

I forgot to mention, that 25-28 mpg.....that's all city. I just spent the last day or two driving mostly highway. Figured out my mpg just a few minutes ago. 32mpg!!@?

Again, lots of sitting in the running car....girlfriend, nuff said.
Also I'm not through the break-in, i'm only at around 750 miles...

Just coast alot people, and try not to use 6th unless you're on the highway going more than 60. Those are my suggestions, that's what I've been doing.

Oh hey, I was on South Street in Philly tonight...cruised up and down. Got alot of nice looks, no doubt one or two think'n of ways to steal the car....welcome to Philly, where the "brother's" love to steal your car. Of course there were alot of girls check'n it out too....girlfriend was with me, nuff said...

What grade of gas? **Merged all gas threads**

I was wondering what grade of gas everyone runs in their 06 Si's? I've been using regular and it's been fine. But I was disturbed because I just read somewhere that I should be using premium?

If anyone knows anything, I'd like to know ASAP! lol

I was wondering what the reasons are for this? I admit i'm a bit ignorant in this area.

i'm pretty sure you need to use premium to prevent detonation b/c the compression is so high.

ScorchedHands, please please PLEASE read your owner's manual. It definitely states that you should use only premium.

There's also a lot of other useful information in there, such as what to do when your tire goes flat

I didn't find anything about the type of gas in the owners manual....on top of I didn't get one from the dealer until almost a week after I had the car.

The car has a few odd miles over 1000 on it, been running on regular same as I always have. Just didn't occur to me until now. I feel kind of stupid. What confuses me is, everyone says "run premium" but nobody can tell me for sure why?

twisted frame told you why. Detonation - the compression is high on the SI.

what is detonation:
a condition, in which, after the spark plug fires, some of the unburned air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber explodes spontaneously, set off only by the heat and pressure of air-fuel mixture that has already been ignited. Detonation, or "knock", greatly Increases the mechanical and thermal stresses on the engine.

Thankyou so much. I shall be putting premium in the tank ASAP. Unfortunately I still have 3/4 of a tank of regular... Maybe I'll syphon it to my truck lol

Oh boy, i'm going to look like an idiot in the driveway tonight.

sidenote tho.

dealer never told me anything about this, and I couldn't find what grade of gas to use in the owner's manual.

does it not say on the gas cap or gas door for the SI? Usually it says "premium Fuel" on the gas area, on the dash sometimes, or on the gas door release. Someone with an SI will have to verify. Don't worry about your tank you have in the car. Just top it off with premium and call it a day. You'll be ok. From now on, I'd just fill with premium though

very well stated webby, that is the textbook definition of detonation! and yes i believe it says premium only on the fuel door but i will verify that when i leave work.

i'm not sure if it says it, i'm usually filling at night and I didn't think to look.

Yea I'm probably just going to top it off with premium, and work out the regular. It was just a thought that it'd be funny to see me syphoning the gas from my car to the truck considering i wouldn't get the chance until 11 pm...lol

thanks again guys, i feel like an idiot but I'm still new to all of this. I've been picking up everything at light speed tho, just soak'n up the goodness
