So I guess it is no surprise that while pretty much everybody else is reporting decreasing auto sales, Honda and Toyota are reporting increases.

I kind of find it somewhat of a surprise since the quality of American autos has definitely gone up. It's not what is used to be so starting from a low bar is easy.

I have a feeling that the increasing Honda/Toyota sales are more a function of the gas price epidemic. While not the total cause, it is a big part of it.

It's so hard to compare "Japanese" and "American" cars these days, I mean, the Toyota Sienna minivan is designed/manufactured/assembled in the US, while a real "American" car, the Chevy Impala, is designed/manufactured/assembled in Mexico. With globalization it is getting harder and harder to put companies in one country, when they operate out of many.
