240sx- sr20 vs rb25
I did a brief search on the web and cannot find an answer to the question. I would prefer not to register to a Nissan forum either so I figured I would try my luck here. Does anyone know what the two motors can handle to the wheels on stock internals and still be reliable? Reliable as in last for several years and atleast 100k miles.

well it depends on what condition you get it in also. RB25 can be fairly reliable it has power and you dont have to crank the boost up like a mad man.
SR20DET's can handle pretty good boost but you can only make so much on a stock block. You should definitely still check out those nissan forums though. |

Not too many rb26 240s around where I live. But after I buy the car I'm gonna save up and build a rb26. Or so thats what I'm planning. |

well the RB has a cast iron block and is near bullet proof BUT still is not very reliable, especially when swapped into a 240, i have lots of friends with RB swapped 240's and they are CONSTANTLY having problems and having to dump hella money into them just to keep em running BUT they have alot of fun with the cars so its up to you, they make anywhere form 400 whp up to a few that are running 1200 whp (not on stock bottom end)
sr20 is easier swap and more reliable from what ive seen BUT its an aluminum block so if you wanna run crazy boost levels it would be worth building the bottom end a lesser known swap is the ca18det (s13 sylvia) its a 4 cyl version of the RB, its a cast iron block much like the RB and is actually the pre-cursor to the RB. i have heard that the CA18 has the best of both worlds, with the exception of being a 1.8 ltr, which isnt as big of a deal if its going to be fully built. . . as much as you dont want to register on a nissan forum, i would recommend it as buying an engine swap is a large investment and id hate for you to spend thousands of dollars on a nissan swap, and countless hours working bugs out to do a swap that was recommended to you on a HONDA forum and then you end up regretting it later. . . do your research |

motor swaps within my circle of friends are pretty common. hell seeing a 1JZ in a R32 Skyline isnt shocking to me anymore. |

honestly i would probably recommend shying away from an already swapped car, more likely than not your buying someone elses problem/ money pit. . . and buying a car like that you KNOW its been dogged so it might be a wiser investment to pick up a salvaged 240 shell in decent shape and swap/build the car as an on going project

if you can find a decent roller shell and go from there you'll probably be better off

a buddy of mine picked up a pristine and BONE stock 95 240 an had it for ONE week before it got stolen, i TRIED AND TRIED to convince him to buy it back from the insurance company and build it but he didnt want to mess with it. . . im sure you could go to some public auctions and pick up a pretty cheap decent condition project car
