Ethenal......?

I was wondering if anyone lives in the mid-west is running Ethenal in a car/truck and is it worth it?

I was "told" that even though it better for the enviroment, that you actually lose gas milage as compared to normal gasoline driven cars - but the performance is better.

Any thoughts?

AND - is it possible to run a combination Ethenal/gasoline in the 06/07 Si?

It is conveinent that E85 is called E85. Not only is it 85% Ethenol, and not only does it cost more, ohh ya, and not only is there not nearly enough corn produced to satisfy the federal requirement, but it only gets about 85% the gas mileage as gasoline.

If they seriously wanted to end our dependence on foriegn oil AND be environmentally friendly, they would produce oil from HEMP. Hemp seed produces 3 times the oil per acre as corn, does not require pesticide, requires half of the water to grow, and can be produced year around. It also has nearly no detechtable level of THC.

This coming from a conservative Republican.

I've read somewhere that even E85 vehicles aren't as well prepared for the corrosion Ethanol creates. That's some pretty nasty stuff. And I still don't get why anyone would bother using it. For what you pay for in terms of refills if you used it exclusively (almost 3 times as many as you would using the recommended gasoline octane for your vehicle), the premium costs of a hybrid vehicle like the upcoming Honda Fit Hybrid--the cheapest hybrid vehicle to be available--seem much more appealing. E85 seems like a waste of engineering when companies are heading towards hydrogen fueled vehicles. But THOSE vehicles definitely have a premium. For now anyway. I think once that technology reaches Hyundai levels, hydrogen vehicles should be fairly affordable and hydrogen refueling stations could be pretty common.

And no, the Si doesn't take E85. Again, it's not prepared to and ethanol is very corrosive. Your engine would last about 5,000-7,000 miles (if that) before completely breaking down. Literally.

i only run e85 when im driving on the highway. this minimizes fuel corrosion as the resistance from the wind has an adverse reflection of induction which neutralizes the atoms in the e85 allowing for the negation of corrosion.
