Is your dealer putting in the wrong type of oil, durring your oil change?

Funny story.... at 2,600 miles I need to top-off my oil

I go to the dealer because I want to buy the same oil that matches whats already in the motor.

My local (rather large) Honda Dealer parts-department tells me they dont carry 5w-30 ???

They want me to buy 10w-30 since they use that in all there cars.

I had to go out to my car and get my 06 SI book out of the glove-box and show him where it says 5W-30 for SI civics and he still didn't think the book was right.

I took him outside and showed him the oil cap that says 5W-30 right on the engine. LOL

So .... he tells me Honda uses Mobil products,....so I went down the road to buy some at my auto parts store. ( But...this is the dealer I have to bring my car back too in a few months to get the oil changed. Don't feel to good about a dealer that can't sell me 5W-30 to top up with since they don't stock it?)

How do we know that when we bring our SI's in to the dealer they're not just pumping in 10W-30 and smiling at us?

( I guess since SI's are only 2% of their business, are they stocking our oil?)

I found Mobil 5000 clean at the auto parts store in 5W-30 grade.
Does Mobil make a special blend for Honda? Is there a way to get Mobil oil that not full of cleaning additives? or is this Mobils basic grade of oil in the stores now?

I hate marketing guys, with all therr BS they keep adding to the labels- "Mobil Clean Super Endurance, Extra, Special Foo-Foo" LOL

look in your owners manual it says that you can use 10w-30 as long as you're in a place that doesn't get below freezing. It is odd that they wouldn't carry 5w-30 though...

i had the same convo with a counter guy and asked him why they put in 5w20 when my manual and engine cap says use 5w30. His reply was that the 5w20 is for Canada and 5W30 is only for good ol' US of A, i replied to a email i received from some customer service thing and made sure to bitch about that, they replied they filled your vehicle with 5w30 but the tech just accidently wrote 5w20 on your reciept...bah...

If you're in a warm climate, it's the number after the W that matters.

I had to remind the "service advisor" that I my car required 5W-30 as stated in the manual. They didnt have a clue that that was the case and had to check a booklet that said what oil is for which car. Gotta love that.
