In hs 3 of my classmates were driving on a country road, one of them was a friend of mine and was the only one wearing a seatbelt. They slid off the road and hit a tree and he was the only one not ejected. He then had to pull the other two who were unconcious out of the pooling gas and call 911.

Just a couple of comments.
First, I sincerely hope that if anyone that's reading this thread and "is not" the type to routinely wear their seatbelts, it helps to change their minds! Second, if any of you are in a car with a group of people and "one" of them doesn't want to wear their seatbelt? I hope this little vid encourages you to change their mind for them. If you think that's more trouble than it's worth, think about what that dude would have done to "you" if you were belted in that car while his 200+ lb frame was bouncing around in there like a ping pong ball. I've got 23 years in the fire service and have seen a lot of this. Sometimes they make it, often times they don't while those that were belted in walk away from the crash with not much more than a few scratches and bruises. FWIW! Please drive safe, Steve R. |

^ Agreed.
I find it extremely hard to believe that there is STILL a lot of people that do NOT wear their seatbelts. This is the first thing I check for when I have (a) passenger(s). If they don't comply with wearing one, I seriously do NOT go anywhere. It is the drivers responsibility, at least where I reside, to have all passengers buckled in...including dogs! I have seen NUMEROUS accidents in my life. I have attended many scenes myself too, like ^ Intrepid175. One encounter had two young girls in a Chevy Sprint, passenger without a seatbelt, and both intoxicated, smash into a 'tree' island and I was first on the scene. Doing first aid on a young girl, who ultimately broke her back for her PROM YEAR 2 weeks prior, plus smashing her face against the windshield and breaking her nose, is not an easy nor enjoyable task to do. For your information, I was in the midst of becoming a deputy Sheriff in that time. I also see first hand what NOT wearing a seat belt does. Like Intrepid175, stealing the words from my blabber mouth, BUCKLE UP! |

We don't have any choice to wear our seatbelts because our cars will bug the bejesus out of us until we do. Well...there is one person on the site I know doesn't. Something about not liking the seatbelt between the boobs....

) can have significant comfort issues with shoulder belts. I know there are extensions and pads that can be had that should help but that's obviously going to be subject to personal opinion. Beyond that, I don't know what else to suggest. All things considered, I would think the potential consequences of not wearing the seatbelt would far outweigh the discomfort. I know ladies, I'm a guy so what do I know? All I ask is that you revisit the video that started this thread and imagine that being "you" bouncing off your own child riding in the back seat! If that image doesn't help change your mind then you've got bigger issues to deal with! Drive Safe, Steve R. |
