Do people try to race you on the streets

I have a friend with a 98 Civic with the rice package and he likes to street race. He justifies this because he says people are always messing with him at lights. Like revving near him and what not. If that was the case I figured with my Si peoole would be doing this like crazy. I don't think anyone has even looked in my direction. Just wondering if I'm the only one that doesn't get messed with. I figure it was exaggeration on his part to justify the races.

maybe your car needs a more subtle kind of "rice package" to get more attention. Or at least an exhaust or rims or something....

Actually I would rather not draw attention to myself. Attention whores end up in accidents or get thier cars stolen.

No. But then again, I'm not really paying attention to anyone giving me eyeballs, and I am old and mean looking.

I am actualy surprised that no one has tried to race me yet. I've only had the car for a week tho, so who knows what the future holds. Maybe it's that I don't have a loud "fart can" exhaust..... I hate those damn things! You know the ones I'm talking about. :P Dont get me wrong- I like a performance exhaust note, but if it goes PHHLLLLLLLTTTTT!!!! It is NOT cool!

Just happened to me this morning on the way to work. Doing fifty in a 40 mph road. It was still dark, so could not see who or what car he was driving. But he came roaring up next to me and was trying to pass me instead of just falling behind as we were approaching a right turn. For some reason that erked me, so I downshifted and floored it. Left him far behind although he was trying catch up. By the time I reached the turn, I was doing 90. Made the turn by downshifting and feathering the brakes around 50. Shortly came up to an ramp to a freeway, and he was still trying to pass me. Luckily, the freeway was empty except for a truck just passing the on ramp and no one else behind me on the three lane highway. He was gunning onto the fast lane behind me and trying to pass. So I gunned it in front of him on the fast lane, passing the truck on the slow lane, and when I looked at my speedo, I was already at 110 in fourth gear and left him behind by three car lenghts. It was only 2 miles before my exit. He tried to catch up but did not. by the time I hit the exit I was doing 120 in fifth and the limiter light was blinking like crazy. I exited the highway and had to slow down fast. Luckily the exit ramp was a long curving ramp, but I was still going 70 around towards the red light. He kept going past the exit I took. I felt stupid afterwards for racing the guy and taking the risk. But it was fun, and there is something about this Si that brings the twenty year old out of me at 59. I hope I don't get into that situation again. Phew!! But it felt good though.

I drive an LX Sedan and it happens to me. This past Friday night as I was heading home on a 2-lane highway I was coming up on a previous model Civic coupe with they gayest rice stickers all over it and a fart can to boot. I was going a little bit faster than he was, probably 2 mph more, and was slowly gaining on him. When I got next to him he floored it. I obviously didn't and just changed lanes behind him. However, as I was coming up on him again he changed lanes, waited for me to catch up and gunned it again. Something about it really pissed me off, but instead of speeding up and racing him I followed him into town. When we pulled up to a stoplight he looked over at me. I reached forward, pushed my touchscreen DVD player and proceeded to watch Bad Boys 2.

May have not been the most mature thing to do, but at that point it was the best way for me to shut him down.

almost the exact same thing happed to me last weekend...i was coming home, on a major road, (3 lanes on each side), i slowly passed a 7th gen riced out civic, and as i passed him, he sped up to my speed, and eventually downshifted and passed me. this happeded several more times. it was a bit rainy, and i had my 2 year old daughter w/ me. if the conditions had been better and no kid w/ me, i would have destroyed that thing.

Angry Why won't anyone race me?

I was expecting that when I bought my car back in March, that I would get reved on all the time. But 5 months later, NO ONE HAS! I get looks all the time from riced out cars, but no one will mess with me, what's the deal?!? The only races that I have really been in have been to trucks that think they're fast when I pass them they step on it and try to pass me, I just have to let them know that their S--- aint fast!

on the first day i got my car, this dude in an RSX-Type S and his buddy in an old Civic hatch started revving, so i was like OK lets see what this car is made of. i ended up beating the dude by like 2 cars (civic hatch wasn't even a challenge); seemed like he couldnt keep up with the shifting.

Lately, since people are starting to realize what exactly the car is they have been hasseling me a little at lights. Mostly though, around here it's Bubba and his big ass Chevy truck that gets mad when I go to pass him, so he stomps on it thinking that it's going to stop me.... Dumbass rednecks... Oh well. I also tend to get a lot of older people asking me what it is, and saying that they wish they had cars like that when they were my age, blah blah blah....

Funny! There a road that I drive to work everyday! I know where this cop park behind this bridge. Some kid ( look like high school student) give me a cocky, attitude, pressure look at me for a race. He drive a older model civic, look like 2000 model. BIG metallic exhaust. So I hit my gas (speed at 78), He hit his gas pedal (speed at 80 plus). When we got close to the bridge. I kinder slow down to the speed limit( road speed 45). He have the nerve to stick me the middle finger at me when he pass me. But I have the last laugh when the cop beneath the bridge pull him over. I gave him a military salute and laugh crazy.

Some do, most don't. I am not big into racing on the streets. HOWEVER, I don't mind the occasional curiosity of what my Si can/can't keep up with... I have never provoked a race though....
