So does anyone know what justifies the 2500 USD increase in price for the Canadian Civic SI

nothing justifies it....and you're not going to win.

its just how its priced, end of story. and no its not cheaper to import the car from the states. CRA will make it even - all cars are priced the same way.

its based on the 65c dollar or something, they dont care what the dollar is now or where the product is made. its easier once you accept that cars, and gas for that matter, are more expensive in Canada

Exclamation wtf

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!??

$300 CDN ($270 USD) increase is what I see.

Last year: $26,080.
This year: $26,380.

Where did you get this $2500 from ?

....and heated mirrors? Where do you guys get this stuff from? I sat in an 07 yesterday. No heated mirrors or astronomical increase in price.

Relax...

Here's where those figures are coming from:

Base MSRP for an American Si: $21,090 USD
Base MSRP for a Canadian Si: $26,380 CAD or converted to USD is $23,615 USD

That's quite the difference between those two prices and the tax will hit us harder up here than it would down there.

Did you sit in a DX/DX-G? All Canadian LX, EX and Si models (coupe or sedan) will have heated mirrors. The rear window defroster button actually turns on both function. You won't notice it working considering there's no snow out now.

I didn't mean to sound harsh, I was just curious. I thought you were comparing last years CDN Si's price to this years Si price.

We (Canada) obviously are getting ripped because, yes you're right, $6000 is a big gap. Even though we make them....

I did something out of boredom one day. I went to the American Honda website, built and priced a new Si, added foglights, HFP body kit and 17" HFP rims, and with conversion to CDN, was STILL CHEAPER THAN OUR MSRP.

Crap.....

You must really luv that we pay $1225CDN for Delivery and the US $595USD ($675CDN).. even though they are built 20 minutes from my place.

And we also don't get White...

What are you talking about not getting white? I sat in one yesterday dude. My order for my taffeta white Civic is coming very soon. There are 5 white civics here in the lot. 3 coupes and 2 sedans (one Si in the showroom -- makes 6 I guess).

Darryl, British Columbia.

this was clarified already, but ill add my 0.02 - im from TO so I obviously know what i'm talking about in the prices - and if you have ever compared the value of a car in CDA vs US, the value is based on a 65c dollar - aka 2002

the difference in price is between boarders, not model years within Cda. That is what the question was asking.

AHHHHHHHH

Well seriously this has to change. It's obvious our dollar is strong, and hasn't changed for months. It's strong at 90c. ($0.90)

Based on 60 cents what kind of bs is that.

What if you purchase the car in here in the states? Do you still have to pay txes over there in Canada?

^ I think so. We then have to pay duty fees, custom fees, importation taxes, contact the Customer Relations and get permission and the necessary paperwork, and then finally the Registrar of Imported Vehicles in Canada.

WOoh... not worth it. Even though its only across the border, it's a different country, and yes you would have to IMPORT the thing and get it certified and inspected. YOu may also have to see if there is any outstanding recalls, otherwise you would have to get Honda USA to fix it before entering Canada. :)

you also have to get beefed up bumpers due to higher canadian crash standards. actually, it's just a piece of high-density styrofoam bit that attaches to your frame (along the front bumper mount).

but yeah, prices up here are pretty rediculous. we have higher Freight/PDI and higher taxes (i paid 7% federal tax + 7% provincial tax). i've basically signed my life away to Honda Canada Finance (which has a flat fee of 6.95% for 60mo), and i'm loving every second of it!!!!

g2g - Vancouver 8th gen meet coming up in less than 3 hours.
