Question The Civic is Good, Right?

Okay, okay,

Please don't flame me. I am a current toyota owner. I have a '95 Toyota Landcruiser... I really had my heart set on getting a Scion tC. But I wanted to get a coupe that had great gas mileage and was very reliable. But I have been hearing some not so good things about the tC that I don't want to get into b/c it'll take me too long to write on this post...

So...now, I'm shootin' for a 2006 civic lx or ex, I haven't decided, in automatic. I have never owned a honda, but I was just wondering if any of you civic owners get the stated mileage of 30-40? Because the tC gets like 20-30 mpg. Also, do you have many problems with the new civic?

I just want reliability, good mpg, and pretty good style...

Thanks so much!

Rebecca aka Jdreb

Check out this thread for some claimed MPGs: http://8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11565

And yes, the Civic is good!
There have been some issues with the Civic that some people have problems with. If you're looking to get a Civic, wait for the 2007 models. Any first year issues should be resolved with the '07s.

And welcome to the forums! We hope you enjoy your stay.

I have an automatic LX coupe and I ******* love it. It may only have 140 hp, but it definetely feels like it's got a lot of power, it also corners very well and is honestly a fun car to drive. But, I've never driven a tc and my only other car was a huge volvo so you might see things differently, heh.

Also, I usually get about 34 mpg, and I'm probably only on the highway like 10/20% of the time - also much better than my old volvo. It only needs the cheap shit so I usually spend about $25-30 at the pump and it generally lasts me a week and a half.

As far as problems, I haven't had any myself and I've had the car for like 4 months and have just under 3,500 miles on it.

Plus, the digital speedometer is sweet. Just wanted to add that.

I love my EX automatic, but if you can get manual, get it. That's my one and only regret. Although when I'm stuck in traffic, which happens every day, I don't regret my auto.

I just filled up today and got 38 MPG after 260 miles. 65% highway, 35% city. That's also with being stuck in traffic a lot (included in the highway percentage). I cruise at 65 on the highway, and try my best to keep the rpms at around 3000 when accelerating. But even when I drive my car as hard as possible, I still get 30 MPG.

If you're in the market for a Civic now, wait for the 07. Like someone said up there, they'll work the first year kinks out. But I still haven't run into any.

Yah, I'm a college student, so I want to get the best mpg I can get and still have style you know? It'll be mostly city driving and I drive 200+ miles a week... And I was looking into the economic cars: Toyota Yaris, Scion xA, etc. but the style just isn't my thing...Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

But yeah, I was hoping to pay 15,000 or 16,000. Is this possible? I mean, I don't know anything about civics...so...

I have to say, I never like the previous generations, but the new generation is the sexy!!

The civic's msrp (si excluded) goes like this:
http://automobiles.honda.com/models/...me=Civic+Coupe
DX
$14,560
LX
$16,510
EX
$18,460

Of course with certain options the price can get up there. But, think about the OTD price versus the price you'll spend on a tc plus repairs. I still like the way the tc looks, for the record. It just can't compete with a civic IMO.

i've hit 34 MPG and thats with a little bit of redline here and there.

the tC has more low end torque so its easier to drive around in town (i've driven a couple of em) and it feels like a boat compared to the civic, the ride height is too high i think and there is a lot of body roll, but nothing a good suspension kit couldnt fix.

get the civic.

im a high school student, about to go into college. i promise you , and i mean promise. all these years, no lie, ive been looking at the scion tc. i personally will tell you, i have no regret getting my civic. just sit inside both for a few minutes, and you'll know why you choose the civic. The tc is good, but in terms of interior styling, the civic has it beat. on the outside i personally believe the civic is much more sleek. If you want gas mileage, go with the DX/LX/EX, since i am only getting 24 tops on my si. this is 90 % city driving though. i promise you, you will not regret your decision. i am not all pro civic, but ive been in your shoes, and im telling you, youll be happy in mine.

ps, you prolly want a auto since most girls i know hate driving stick, or cant. either way you go, its not a bad deal. you may spend a slight more on a civic, but hey, its worth that extra 1k or so.

I would say head to your nearest Honda dealer and give the 8th gen a test drive. Most reps will let you rip it hard because it is a test car, that's what I did. I fell in love with it the moment I got in one. I mean you are on an 8th gen forum, so you will get a lot of biased answers, but your judgement through a test drive would be best!

The rep who let me take her for a rip says the feeling never gets old. :)

Thanks, yeah, I'm just worried about price, does anyone have record of buying the civic for 15-16G?

I'm sure it's possible to find something at Invoice. You might be able to negotiate an LX. Depending on the dealer, you might even be able to talk an EX down to the price of an LX or lower.

And sorry. I'm looking to have a Blaze Orange Fit with a JDM Mugen conversion sitting in my yard in the next few months. So no, I dunno what you're talking about J/k I like the Yaris sedan, but the hatch is a bit too cute for mine own tastes. And the front end of the xA is ok, but I don't love the rear.

I don't know where you're from, but the msrp's I listed above are american and if a dealership won't give it to you for at least msrp, tell them you'll walk. If they still won't, stick to your word.
I've got an '05 civic right now and it's like driving a slug, and still fun somehow. I can't imagine the '06-'07 not being a blast considering they bumped up the hp and put a 10x better engine in the car. The only problem I've had with my '05 is a lot of rattling, but when I unhook the two 12's in my trunk it stops. Go figure.

Yeah, thanks for all the encouragement. I think that I am going to get a lx auto and I'll fight for the price. I just can't drive stick... But I need to go to dealer... No one in my town has one! I think I have to go out of town.

The DX would be your best bet for 15/16 grand, but that's like the bare bones model. I'm like 95% sure it doesn't even have air-conditioning standard. I was actually trying to find a DX coupe at first but nobody had them for some reason, and the only place that did installed the A/C themselves which if I remember right bumped the price up to just a tad under the msrip of the lx, heh.

That might have just been the dealers I went to though.

Oh man, I was looking for a substantially loaded one for 17000 at the most.... And by substantially, I mean, cruise control, A/C, and keyless entry, that's about it. That's how much the LX is about, right?
