Unhappy Really tough decesion...I need everyone's help!

Alright guys, here's my story. Let me know your opinion, because I'm really lost with this....alright, so I just graduated high school and am currently attending a junior college that's close to home, so I can work and live with my parents. I'm majoring in pharmacy, which means after two years in community college I will be moving away to finish my last 5-6 years of school. I'm planning on possibly going to a college in Florida(I live in Illinois) and getting an apartment with my cousin. Anyways, I'm really going to need a car to get me around. I'm currently the proud owner of an 06 SI which I truly love. Here's my problem...I put 9 grand down on my car, and took out a loan for about 12 grand...at the moment, I've got about $10,000 left to pay...which equals about 3 or 3 1/2 years. When I move away to college, I wont be able to afford that car payment(which is about $400 bucks a month-technically its $300, but I like to pay an extra hundred to principal) because I'll be paying rent and my student loans. Now, I've been thinking about selling my SI now, and buying something with the money I earn off of it. After some searching, I found an 02 RSX type s for about 11 grand with 58k miles on it. If I'm not mistaken, the RSX is almost an identical trade-off for the SI. About 200 horses, 6 speed manual, and not to mention leather. If I buy the RSX, I wont have a car payment every month and that extra $400 a month could be put away to make it easier for me to pay for college. I guess at this point in my life, getting through school is the most important thing to me. Once I get out, I'll be earning around $90 grand to start...and I'll have money to buy me something nice...the RSX(or whatever car I would get) would help me get through college. I really don't wanna sell my SI, but it seems like the most logical thing to do...especially while it's in such high demand and before the 07's hit the streets...any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

I've been where you are. Make your mind up on what you want for a goal. It sounds like a good lifelong career (good choice). Now, whatever gets in the way of that has to go. If you can't do this, then you need to rethink what your goal is. Obviously, this will be a big sacrifice, but it will be worth it in the long run. Good luck.

By the way, what career will start at $90K/yr.?

i think the average pharmacy school graduate makes about that much entry...
scary, huh? =)

goodluck on your decision, i think you're thinking the right thing. School isn't cheap, and your future comes before your car. And the RSX-S isn't bad either!

Sounds like a good deal. If you're going to be in school awhile those car payments can be hard to manage.

+1

i agree. get a nice car after you graduate. while you're in school, get something that's reliable and fun to drive, but that doesn't interfere with your finances. you'll need every penny once you're in school! and besides, with $90k/year, i'm sure you'll be more than happy to buy something more exotic than a Civic! or maybe you can be first in line for the 2014 Civic Si!

Sounds like you know what you're doing man. Sell the new Si while it's hot, you will likely make a decent profit on the deal if it's still in excellent condition. With the RSX you'd still have a sweet ride while you're in school.

My wife is in her last year of pharmacy school and starting salary is $90-100K depending on where you go. Retailers like CVS and Walgreens are paying the best these days. Maybe next spring we'll sell our Si for an M3 :) That would be sweet but I doubt it will happen!

Man thats awsome that your doing pharmacy. Do u have to get accepted after you two years of comunity college? I'm also in pharmacy and i have 3 years left after this one. I would say you should do the trade because like you said, when your done with school , you can afford higher end cars. Its kinda funny how much pharmacists get paid for counting pills, lol. (they actually do more, but thats what most people think they do).

I was in the same position. I ended up just working 7 days a week to get my butt though college and pay for everything else. In the long run it's worth it. Now I'm making +50k 1 week out of college, and I can pay the bills with a little extra left over (thank god). Also after 4 years of working 7days a week I finally get vacations and weekends off :)

Do what you have to do, and never look back!

Get the RSX and an education and you will end up winning with enough to buy an NSX if you like. Best of luck! Don't be lost just do what you got to do and it will all work out.

School is the most important thing you will ever do for yourself! Don't let anyone tell you different (not that anyone has)! Sell the Si and get the RSX-S---Very good decision. Best of luck with school!

as far as I know, this is my gameplan....two years at a community college to get all of the general education courses out of the way, and get my associates while I'm there. Then off to a 4 year college to get my bachelor's degree (2 years there). Then off to a graduate school for 2-3 years to get my doctorate of pharmacy. It's gonna be a long road, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Good Luck on your studies.

So that RSX-s I was talking about turned out to be a phony. I'm still debating on whether or not to sell my SI. I found a 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege that I'm digging. My cousin has one and its a really nice ride. Turboed with a big ole front mount. Decisions decisions

Phony how? Just curious.

Just remember that as mileage increases on a turbo'd car, so do the associated maintenance costs.

from the picture that was posted, it looked like there was a huge dent on the right front fender...I sent them an e-mail asking if there was...and there response was (no dent, very clean). So I sent a few more e-mails asking about the condition and again about the dent...and they never responded...a few days later, the car was removed from the site. So it wasnt necessarily a phony...but usually a car dealership will respond to your e-mails very quickly and constantly badger you about the car, hoping you'll buy it.
