Honda car codes FG2, EP, etc.?

Okay, I've no clue...

If the FG2 is an 8th Gen Si, what's an EP?
Is there a list of what the codes translate to?

Seems to me that the terms Si, FG2, K20, etc., are all tossed around like we're all taught that in school or something. ;-)

Please educate me (and the others who may be wondering the same thing).

I've got this one down; I think...

FG2 = 8th Gen Si
EP =
more?

-Glenn

Check out this sticky for more info on our chassis codes.
2006 Civic Chassis Codes

Here's some info for earlier models.
http://www.hondahookup.com/info/civic_chassis_codes.php

D16, B16, R18, and K20 are all engine codes. Someone else will have to fill you in on the specifics.

EP3 is the previous generation Si hatchback.

These are usually chassis/body codes to signify which particular car someone's talking about. The FG in FG2 denotes the coupe body.

An example is the EK:

Basically, we use it to sound smart. :)

Damn, Cameron stole'd my thunder!

D16= D series motor.. offered in alot of the earlier model civics. Came in both a SOHC Vtec (weksos) and a simple SOHC. its a 1.6 liter engine (hense the 16).

B16= Alittle different.. B16= DOHC vtec engine (foroget what theyre offered in). All i know about this is that the crossover to vtec on a CTR motor is absolutely amazing.

B18= DOHC 1.8 litre B series engine.

R18= R series.. 1.8 litre

k20= K series... 2.0 litre engine

(in an earlier civic.. the b-series swaps are the cheapest and *somewhat* easiest way to go fast. i also am going off memory/what ive been told so some of my facts may not be bang-on).

Thanks for the info, gents. :-)

Yes, CameronJr9, I knew what the K20 and R18 were, I was just using those as examples of some (but not all) of the terms (or codes) used that not evertone might know, that's all. :-) Imagine you're a first-time Civic owner, you sign up at this forum, and see FG2, you might well wonder what that is, was all I was attempting to convey. I'd posted my question after searching google several different ways, *but* I'd not seached this site, thus had not found the sticky you referenced that denoted the Si as the FG2156A. My bad.

So I'd driven a 1996 Civic hatchback for 10 solid years and never knew it was also referred to as the "EK." ...Who knew? :-) Now I apparently own an FG1. Cool! Thanks to 8thCivic.com, I know that my 2006 EX coupe MT can also be referred to as the: FG1186J.

"Hey, I own an FG1186J with an R18A1 in it..." (fixed :-)

I'll have to try that out on someone sometime. ;-)

Fixed it for ya

btw a simple way to recognize engine code is that the 1st is a letter(c,d,b,k,f,r,etc.) the second and third are numbers designating the displacement of the motor and the fourth and fifth(if it has one) is usually different series of the motor. This applies to most honda motors with a few exceptions like the zc, etc.

That's good info! Thanks!

The B16 is the older Si engine.

The B18c1, I believe belongs to the GS-R.

The B18c5 belongs to the beloved Type-R. ***I love the b18's***

The R18 belongs to the base model 8th Gen Civic.

And the K20, of course the 6th gen SI.

This is the 8th Generation of Civic, but the Si has only been in development for 6 of those.
