Wouldn't it be cool if...

If you could change certain settings in your ECU to make your car do cool things like move down the side view mirror when you move into reverse or change the rate at which the speed refreshes (no point to this, just cool to play around with... think knightrider and tubo boost mode lol). I was just thinking this on my way home wondering if my reflash cart for my nintendo DS came in the mail yet... you can pretty much hack everything these days. Wouldn't it be pretty cool if you could do the same to the car (apart from the performance reflash and such)?

I feel ya.. Like to program your ecu to do specific tasks that you prefer. That would be pretty cool. Kind of got me thinking of what all I'd make it do.

Not sure the ECU could do that.. it controls the engine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_Control_Unit

That said, I know what you mean, it would be nice to have a bit more toys to play with (rather than just automatic door locking and unlocking) when certain things happen with the car, like hitting a certain speed, putting the car into reverse, etc. Then again, this is an economy car, not a car fully decked out with gadgets everywhere.

I was thinking I'd like to have the option to set the Si's engine into 3 different modes for operation of VTEC. 1st, a normal profile, exactly as it's set right now, only engages the performance cam profile once you're hovering around the 5800+ mark. 2nd, a performance profile, that behaves like the Hondata reflash, engaging the aggressive cam profile at lower rpms, and if possible, bypasses a large portion of the airbox by opening a flap before the resonator in the bumper and would provide much more usable power for all around aggressive driving. 3rd, an economy profile, that does anything and everything to exceed the gas mileage of the R18... maybe cut out two cylinders, set the rev limiter to 3800 rpm and limit throttle to 60%... cause I can't seem to stay below that engine speed for long.

I'd like to have something that limits the engine to 3K when I pass the car off to a valet or Honda Service

Now, there's an idea! Of course, Honda Service would have over-ride codes or something that they could enter. That wouldn't do you much good.

Or what about programming the tach so that when you start it up it does a gauge sweep. My buddies ninja did it and thought it was really cool. Pointless, but cool.

You have a buddy with a WRX don't you? I know they have somethign like KPro that allows you to change the fuel mapping on the fly. They have a valet mode map that limits the boost and rpm's

It's an STI...I'll ask him and see what he says. This would be an incredible find if we are able to do something like this

Yeah this would be sweet since you know when an Si goes in for service they test drive it for sure. I brought mine in for the reflash and my seat, steering wheel and rear view mirror were all changed.

Mind you I had a vibration I needed them to check, but still. Dont screw with my seat!

yeah...I was wondering what'd need to be done for like the side view mirror to come down when you put it in reverse or "normal" and "sport" modes....but that'd be like....a whole new car....I just want a light in my glove compartment and visors damn it! :-P

I'd have my ecu engage v-tec at 2500 and disengage at 8200
