I agree, those cars are a little too much for us teens as a first car. Personally I believe the SI is a perfect first car that is still performance oriented.

my first car was a 1989 prelude with just over 100 hp and even less tq. even that was a bit much for a teen... and I'm responsible.

The current Si is too fast for teens. 200hp doesn't sound like much these days, but it really is too much for a teenager.

Used to be. Since the C4, the Corvette has utilized plastics heavily (cheaper and more easily repaired than fiberglass).

Not all teens are like that.. come on that's just called stereotyping!
Of course, we are more prone to crashing as we are less experienced drivers who like to sometimes experiment, but that doesn't mean we aren't ALL irresponsible!!
My first car is a 2007 civic coupe LX and I think I'm fine for the majority of the time as far as speeding goes

Sucks to see this happen though, bet the parents are thinking "why did we give him that car?!"

Yeah I guess you guys are right. The majority of teens on the road dont need a Si or anything comparable to it. All my life I have been around moto and quad racing. I also love to go to the local drag strip and have fun.

Insurance companies should be sued imo, it should be illegal to use statistics to value someone's insurance. Everyone should start out at a flat rate and have it change from there depending on what you do. My sister just got her license less than a week ago (17) and her insurance score is higher than mine, meaning it costs less to insure her. Total BS, no accidents/tickets on my records.

Insurance companies take a calculated risk. When a certain age group or gender has a propensity for accidents, the insurance company has to charge a higher rate to offset the increase in claims. If you don't have any claims, then when you reach the next age bracket, your premium goes down. Ignoring those statistics would cause the insurance companies to not be able to make a profit off of those groups. Ultimately, insurance companies would just refuse to insure those groups, which would in turn make it illegal for those groups to drive.

Be happy the system works the way it's currently configured. Some countries have much more strict insurance bracketing.

i dont think the Si is too much for teens to handle, they just need to be smart. my first car was a 99 Cougar, now have the 08 Si and im only 19. with this car ive learned to control my driving, i think its a good car for a teen simply bc it teaches self control.
and btw most vettes are still fiberglass, hence the reason for never finding any dents in the body panels only cracks.

Justin Credible.
It would be nice if people would see this (and the countless other street racing death related stories you see on the news) and learn not to street race.. But we all know that won't happen.

You can't teach someone that doesn't want to learn, and unfortunately this is one of those mistakes that once you learn from it you likely will end up learning how to just chew again (if you live).

WERD! I used to street race until I saw a race related death, from that moment on I vowed to never street race. Now I do it on the track!!

It's still too much power. The most important aspect of a vehicle for a teenager is that it be safe and not inspire the teen to speed.

And as far as I know, the C4 and later Corvettes utilized plastics, not fiberglass.

Not necessarily. I'm like $160ish a month I beleive on my SI? I'd rather they charged me $200 a month to start out with, along with EVERYONE else (since I'm in probably the highest bracket already to start out with, teen male) they would profit off of everyone. Then, as the years went on and my record was good, it'd continuously go down until I plateaued off at the best price, until I messed it up.

Point is, it's ridiculous that I'm 19 with no tickets/accidents and my 17 year old sister with her week old license pays less than me.

You're absolutely right. The c5 that was wrecked was plastic/metal. It's the plastic rear that makes me dislike corvettes :\
