He can get you anywhere as long as he can see that you are the car is he's using the radar on.

But i got a quick question. Isnt a radar detector considered illegal? Since it goes against a radar of the police. Also what exactly does it do? It tells you when a police is close by and reverses the radar?

To be honest, it's probably not going to matter WHERE he nails you, because he's a cop and you're not. And if you're alone, you're done; there's no credible evidence.

I've tried.

Yea, they can even radar while moving behind you. I got nailed in a ford aerostar workvan going 73 in a 55. Yes that's right, a ford aerostar (aka) the deathstar.....r.i.p. you turd.

p.s. - after several cornfield baja trips we ended its life by not running oil in it and throwing miscelaneous garbage into the oil fill cap. it wasnt pretty.

Only in a handfull of states, but anything that transmits is illegal (http://www.speedzones.com/jammers.html). Radar detectors just receive.

Basically, it does exactly what the name implies, it detects radar waves. That said, if the only radar wave is the one pointed directly at your car, you're screwed. It saves your ass when the cop is checking the speed of the cars in front of you, giving you enough time to slow down. I've been busted for speeding even when using a radar detector because the motorcycle cop wasn't using his radar until he used it on me. By then, it was too late.

SiC17's situation is exactly where detectors will be of little or no use. Radar units can be run in both 'always on' and 'instant on' (where the unit is on, but not active and can be switched to active by a swtiched remote). In such a case you will have little if no warning before you are trapped by the gun. If you are lucky, your detector will pick up the 'blips' as the officer is trapping other cars for a few seconds at a time. If you happen to catch these intermittant signals, you will often find an officer a short ways down the road, trapping speeds.

It's better just to not speed. Cops dont need radars to be able to ticket you for speeding. The occasional laser will get you, and they can ticket you just by guestimating your speed relative to their movement. If theyre going 65, and you're car is moving slightly faster, you must be going over the speed limit.

Yup, that's 100% true. The dedicated traffic cops are damn good at estimating too, they can usually get within 2-3mph on their guesses every time. With Radar, they can get you from any direction, they can even shoot them out the back of their cars (if so equipped).

As for laser, if you get hit with laser you are pretty much jacked cause the detection on a laser detector means he's hitting your car. Occassionally it will pick up other hits. Laser is only accurate within 1000ft though, and the laser gun shows how far away you are.

We have speed limits for a reason!
I wouldnt imagine why radar detectors wouldnt be illegal.. it would be liiike.. stealing candy from a store when the camera was shifted the other direction! Its still wrong :]..

Radar is a form of surveilance and the people have a right to know when they are being surveiled. It is no different then the signs a store owner has to post letting you know that they use security cameras.

most new radar detectors have it where the police cant
detect you have a radar (cant remember the name of this option but
i think it was like V-something??). But anyhow, it wouldnt matter anyhow
even with this option because if a cop is driving the street without his
radar on and you are slammin down the street at speeds over the posted
limits and he comes in visual contact with you and notices you are comin
at twice the speed as the rest........BLIP! he paints your ass and hits
his sirens on you!!

they can get you anywhere, anytime.....dont rely on a radar!
i had one and all i did was panic cuz of false alarms and shit.

Most older Police Radar works only when the vehicle is moving towards the gun, and can only read the front 180 degrees around the car. Newer Ka band and laser can read from any angle including behind the car.

I am a habitual speeder, and I use common sense when not to speed. When I do get a ticket (a lot when I was younger, fewer now) I just have to accept it. I do use a radar detector, but you just have to remember that it's not a cop detector!
