that vid is crazy. Looks like it's a handful to drive - watching the steering wheel, but it looks like that time could even be lower. A few times it looks like the rear got away from him. wow.

What did the GT-R do it in just to compare?

EDIT: actually looking deeper, it looks like the gt-r ran a 7:29 not too long ago. but there is a lot of speculation that the car was not stock.

7:29, and the car was completely stock. The question is how the V-Spec will fare, which is arguably the equivalent to the Zr1.

Very impressive run though, I don't know how anybody can have the guts to put a car through those speeds, wow. Regardless of how much the GT-R V-spec will or won't beat the time, there's no doubt that the ZR1's an amazing car.

^ The ZR-1 is indeed an incredible car as is the GT-R. I think we should enjoy these cars while they last because with ever increasing emissions controls and fuel economy requirements, these cars may go the way of the muscle cars of yore. The times being posted by production cars easily rivals that of some incredible race cars 30 years ago.

That is a sick car!
And props to the driver - I wish I could drive like that. But, would it not be safe to say that if you took someone from say Corvette Racing who races a vette everyday he would improve on the time...again nothing against the eng. that drove but he is still an engineer that can drive really well. Also do we have any idea who actually drove the GT-R? Was he a pro or another engineer

The GT-R ran that 7.29 on cut slicks, not oem tires.

yes, the GTR ran on slicks...

The zr-1 is the fastest production car in the world around the ring. Indeed he was in engineer and yes he acknowleged he could have even gone faster on certain parts of the ring.

If a pro driver or Ron fellows was driving you would see more improvement. Also notice the way he takes turns. The zr1 suspension can handle brutal punishment. Its the crown jewel of my company.

BTW stay tuned for the camaro ring time guys

If all GM products were that sweet they'd be called Ferarri and the ZR1 would be $300,000 instead of $100,000.
