Air vent in trunk?

If any of you have taken the carpet and sides of your trunk off, you'll see there is some kind of vent thingy with a flap. What is that for?

I have a subwoofer and when it hits, i can hear the flap flapping.... kind of annoying

btw.. i have an LX sedan

Did you check it out? The "vent" thing is on the left and the right side.... under those square indentations in the trunk

the vents are to let the cabin air out. Air comes through the cowl in front of the car, out the vents in the dash, through the rear deck into the trunk, then out the vents in the trunk, in theory. They simply allow air to circulate through the car.

Is there anyway i can stop them from making noises when my subwoofer hits without stopping from doing their job?

use some sticky backed weather insulating foam, the good stuff they sell at the hardware stores, put a little strip on the edge of each flap so they hit the foam instead of the other plastic flaps.

Simple and cheep!

There are 2 In the trunk... on the left and right.

^ it's kinda dark so i circled where the left one would be. There's another on the right side of the trunk

^ i pushed one of the flaps in... they're bendable rubber like rubber bands.

I took out the whole thing by squeezing the clips then pushing it into the body of the car and it falls out from under the car onto the ground.

It also rattles when my sub hits... and i wuold like to stop it. Foam weather stripping doesnt help at all.

Foam weatehr stripping doesnt work. It just makes a FOOF FOOF FOOF (muffled) sound instead of a FLAP FLAP FLAP

Is it bad if i tape the flaps shut so they stop making noises?

These vents are there to releave air pressure in the car when you shut your doors. If they were not in place (or if you sealed them shut), you could do some damage, either your windows or your ears if you or someone is in the car when a door slams shut. Every make and model vehicle have these vents in place.
