Why Do YOU Buy Cars New?
Came across this link in another forum which has generated some good discussion (not sure if it's been posted here). Personally, it's forced me to rethink the whole process of buying a new car every 4-6 years.
Link: Drive Free. Retire Rich. So, for those that do, why do YOU buy cars new? |

its better to start off with a new car. no worries about it breaking down. everytime it breaks down it cost time and money/ when you have a job theres no time to mess around with a old car.

Why? I have no faith in other people, unfortunately. If I bought a civic SI used, it'd be this one:
YouTube - me sick FYI, the guys in that vid got their SI repo'd so they're just beating the crap out of it until it gets taken back. |

I buy new cars because I like to have the new model. I don't want someones used car that my have been driven hard (not that I wont do it, lol) and I want a low finance rate over used at bank rate (7.9%) Also warranty is very helpful, and with a new car its not so likley to break down.
Cars are a waste of money though, horrible resale value even on Honda's these days. |

I buy new so that I know what has been done to them from day 1.
If you buy used, you have to hope that the last person takes as good care of a car as you do. If not, you end up with a car that you don't know what the hell it has been through. Oh, better financing than used...too. |

I don't know if I'd buy into the new car hype all that much anymore. For example, I can get a hold of a garage queen with less than 10K miles for about 30% less than retail if it's 2-3 yrs old.
Look at S2K's on the market. 05's have been known to sell for 19-22K with low milage. Doesn't seem like all that bad of a deal when you can use the 12K and strap on a Comptech SC, coilovers, Volks, and a host of other goodies. Or better yet, throw it into that "New Car Fund" the vid talks about. Thoughts? Last edited by Design; 07-03-2008 at 04:46 PM. |

Heh, "12% stock market average"
That statement alone shows just how much spin in present in the presentation. Additionally, anyone with even the least bit of finance, accounting (or even decent math) education should be quick to catch on to the 'funny math' that the presentation is using. Seriously, folks, while some 'okay' points were made, a large portion of the presentation is classic sales strategy...looks great, but is very fuzzy at the edges.
