well I think the R18 definately had more engineering behind it, since it takes toyota VTC and 2 cams to pull that power/torque, the R18 gets more power, equal torque and same/better fuel economy on one cam and no VCM, sure it gets i-VTEC, but its not proper VTEC as far as im concerned

Corolla S does look good, but not good enough. . . but thats looks, and thats ALL personal preference

I have driven and seen the Corolla for a long long time. Not restricted to one model.

I have a deep respect for the Corolla.

The R18 seems to have clever engineering behind it. It might be more powerful, and sportier.

If I were to bet money on engine reliability and durability, I would put my money on Corolla's side.

. . . what???. . . the XRS. . . ooohhh 2AZ, atleast the K20 is fuel efficient while being 'slow'. . . 2ZZ was the better engine and they canned it. . . oh well. . . and im pretty sure on the suspension side its about the same as the base model torsion beam stuff

I dont doubt the reliability, my dad has an old 96 Corolla, running a 7A, its still going stong, with something like 180k, mostly neglected. . . but ive seen older civics do the same as well, theyre both pretty reliable companies, so the difference wont be too big. . . but the 2ZR just really came out on the open market, so we'll have to see how it survives the test of time

I guess i'll throw my opinion in as well. Coming from a guy who drives an R18 daily to work and has the new 2009 Corolla as a company car i can directly compare them both. The Corolla does have a bigger interior compared to my EX but it doesnt feel as refined. The exterior of the Corolla looks like Toyota is trying WAY to hard for something new, this car was never sporty to begin with so i dont see why they are trying to make it that way. The outside of the Civic is sleek and sexy with nice angular lines, it just LOOKS more sporty. Speaking of that when comparing the Corollas 4spd to my EX's 5spd the Civic definetly feels more peppy, probably because its lighter i dont know. I think i forgot to mention it but the Corollas we have are the XLE and for the price they are at, the features on the Civic's whomp the hell out of anything that the Corolla can throw at you......

Im sorry but the new looks of the WRX Sti really let me down!

I think they were trying to steer away from the boy racer group and more into the more "refined" aestheticly pleasing car kinda thing...

Thats not my cup of tea. The new STI's are just plain ugly. Sorry.

yup, that was the whole reason. they wanted to "appeal to a wider audience"

i thought it was pretty disappointing and ugly too, but since i'm on the subie forums all day looking at different pics, they start to grow on you pretty fast. and if you test drove an sti before, you wouldn't care how it looks.

So if they shoved a STi engine into a Toyota Echo, you'd get it anyways?? LOL!

..... are you serious? the sti motor itself is not what makes the sti everything that it is. but if the toyota echo delivered 100% of what the sti delivers, and at least show some sort of "sportiness," then sure, why not. but no one is going to make a car like the sti and make it look like a complete regular econobox pos. but then your civic gets owned by a echo, so then who would be laughing?

before you make another comment like that, go over to nasioc.com and study a bit first.

In all fairness right now if i had a choice between the Evo X and the New Sti's, id definately go with the EVO.

Even if it means the harsher ride.

Before the body change, STI, no doubt!

yeah im the same way, any of the older STi models id take over the older EVOs, I know the old VIIIs and IXs could kill an STi any day of the week (stock-for-stock), its just something about the STi that gets me. . . now the new STi vs EVO X, its all about the EVO, im just not a big fan of 5-door hatchbacks, i can deal with a 3-door any day

Ok so now that we determined everyone would pick the Civic over the Corolla, but what does everyone think of the Jetta?

Let me hear it?
