I've had my Type R for 7 months now and done over 4500 miles. Overall i'm very pleased with it.

I did have a slight problem with 3rd gear which seems (hopefully) to have resolved itself
I also think i may be one of the people to have a non functioning alarm but need to investigate this further. But thats it apart from the dreaded stone chips but then every car i've ever owned has had these. Oh and my front seat has got a small shiny patch where the seatbelt rubs

Ultimately this is a great drivers car and made to be enjoyed so don't spoil the fun by worrying about it all the time . I don't but then maybe i'm not as fussy as some

"

looks like hondas gear problems are universal
Heyyyy! thats my post

Lord, I just registered over there. I think thats the last place I need to be considering my obsession with all things British. I'm still pissed that the Euro Civic isn't available here. I was living in Italy when I first saw one. I would have never purchased my car if I hadn't been living there at the time.

I put you down as the person who referred me.

I've owned both and although they have the same engine they are very different cars.
The EP3 is very raw and basic. Great fun to drive though.
The new FN2 is much more refined, better equipped but still a hard ride. And most importantly its still really good fun to drive. Handling and performance feel the same in everyday use.

The whole EP3 v FN2 causes a lot of heated debate. Its a long thread but lots of different impressions here : type R panned by Clarkson - Civinfo

Very cool website. Man are their cars so different but I am not a fan of them. I really do think the ones here look better.

I love my Type R its a great car.

I don't really know anything about the US civic. Is the Si version your equivalent of the European Type R?
The Si model comes with an LSD instead of an open-diff. I believe the rear suspension is different also. The NA-spec cars have multi-link rear suspensions.
