Questioning some things...

Please don't attack me yet, just let me explain first. I'm loving my Civic Coupe, but with college coming up next year and having to move all my stuff, the Fit has become a consideration, plus, the insurance might be a little cheaper. Now, i'm only thinking about it, i haven't done anything yet, but i just can't bear departing from my beloved Civic, yet, i might be in need of the Fit which is a bit more practical. Any advice for my confused mind...

If you think you'll need trunk space a lot in college, grab a bigger car like a 4-door or even a small used SUV.

I go to college and I only use my trunk maybe once or twice a month to haul groceries or stuff to the beach. If you use it on a daily basis, I say look at the new CX-7 by Mazda. Those things look bad ass. I haven't had a chance to see one in person, but it's worth.

What are your needs and affordability? Thats what comes in to play really.

Well for one, hauling friends and our stuff can be a pain in the ass sometimes because everyone gets squashed...i'd prob. go for the base model Fit, around $15,000ish...that way i wouldn't take a major $$ loss.

You'll lose alot of $ of the trade (making it a plus to sell it privately for more $), however, IMHO the Fit is a very nice small vehicle with lots of options for carrry people and hauling stuff.

I had an '86 Monte Carlo (2 door) and a '94 Civic (4 door) in college. I was able to fit my entire dorm room in both. Trust me, you'll be fine with the Civic you have. If you want to to with the Fit, I won't stop you. I test drove one, and there is plenty of room and several options for carrying things. Just think about it before you jump.

Yea, i had the opportunity to test drive one too, a silver base model, and i thought it was a great value, but it is pretty underpowered. I'm more than likely gonna keep my Civic, but i was having some thoughts about the Fit and i figured i should check with you guys first before i made the next step, which i have no clue what that would be exactly and i would probably not end up doing that anyways.

Yea, but that space decreases when you add 5 people + beach gear.

Ok, so after thinking about it long and hard, and with a little helpful advise, i decided i am going to keep my Civic. I figure, if i do trade it in, i would regret it and probably end up not being happy at all. I love my Civic and intend to keep it for a long, long time. Plus, if i ever need space to haul alot of stuff, i'll just borrow my dad's CR-V!

The ride back isnt nearly as bad after you kill 3 of the 5 people for getting sand in your new civic (;

You're going to get crap as a trade in regardless of what ever Kelley Blue Book or N.A.D.A. tells you your trade in is worth. I see it daily. Customers bring in KBB or NADA prices but they don't mean anything. They are general prices across the manufacturer's boards. You'll get a few hundred to a thousand higher at your cars manufacturer for trade but you still won't get what you want for trade. They want top $ when they sell just like you do. You can trade it in if you want but your trade in + new car cost+ insurance= about the same. Really, really, really do your homeowork before making a decision on this one.

Ex. You'll get a higher $ at Honda for a Honda than you would for a Dodge at a Toyota dealership. Dodge Neon SXTs don't have the resale value their owners wish they had. Sorry, but thats the truth. Those of you who get what you owe, either don't owe much or you have a very maliable dealer.
