I finally joined this forum. I am a 7th gen owner, sorry for the unoriginal handle. The 7th gen forum has kinda run its course for me, but I will still check there sometimes.

My 7th gen is from the dreaded 2001 year, so regardless of how good everyone says the 06s are I am going to wait at least to the 2007s. Plus I am hoping that variable intermittent wipers are added to the LX. Actually, my 01 hasn't been too bad, just front strut problems and excessive rattling.

I would like to buy a new car now, but I am too unsure of a lot of things, like whether to go to a mid-size or not, for more safety. Among the compacts though I keep coming back to either Civic or Accord. The car reviews say that the other mfgs are coming up fast on the Civic, but I can't see it. The only car that matches it for 5 star crash, IIHS crash, mileage, and reliablity is the Corolla. On paper I would say the Corolla is better than the Civic, but I like the seating of the Civic, at least my 01. I like the Mazda 3 too, it is very comfortable but doesn't have 5 star crash for both driver and passenger.

So I will probably hang onto my 01 for at least another year. With the LX still not having variable intermittent wipers and the deletion of the split rear seat, there really isn't enough extra to the 8th gens over the 7th for me to run out and buy one yet.

What is the thing about the wipers that I keep hearing about? I know that they're mounted on opposite sides, but what are these issues that I keep hearing about.

My beef is just that Honda won't give you Variable Intermittent Wipers unless you get an EX. Variable have several more speed settings than the regular intermittent. A lot of cars that cost less than the LX have them, including the Corolla LE.

I haven't personally heard anything about the wipers other than that they were "gimmicky". I like them myself.

But putting all of that aside, welcome to the forum! It's much more entertaining here.

Thanks! 7th gen was/is a great forum, I got a lot of pointers there, but not enough 8th gen discussion. This forum looks like a fun one too.

Lol, on my last car it had like 20 speeds.. you really only need like 5.. they should all calculate speed with them too.. thats all you need :]
