Programmable Engine Management Systems: Wiring Diagrams/Functions/Limitations
I am putting together an Excel spreadsheet that captures the wiring details when installing a Programmable Engine Management System (PEMS) in a piggyback configuration on the 2006+ Civics. I have the pinout descriptions for the stock Engine Control Module (ECM) (details on the stock ECM can be found in this thread) already populated and am looking to acquire more information to complete the spreadsheet and this post. With that being said, I am hoping to receive input on the following:

I'm hoping that this thread will be thorough and concise enough to help both others and myself at some point. I've read through several installation manuals and the information presented is rather generic in a sense. Having more detailed information would help in the wiring and knowing what someone would be expecting if they chose one system over another. I've already added the Greddy e-Manage wiring information that I have read and am working on the spreadsheet for the MoTeC to add that information as well. I would really appreciate it if others could chime in with their knowledge so that the information presented in the first post is spot on. |

Thanks...I edited the tags in your post for the link and will add the details. The information on that page however is a lot easier to understand than others that I have seen.
BTW, MoTeC does not have knock detection either for several reasons. It can always be added though which I'd guess the same can be said for the Haltech. |

Not worried too much about knock since Mo is a conservative tuner. At most with Pump I will run 23psi with the Meth kit. Race = sky's the limit.

Cool...I'm hoping that more people can assist with tracing the wiring used on their car. I know that several systems include a PnP harness, but it would be helpful if we had an understanding of how each was wired.
There is another thread in the forced induction area regarding the F/IC and people running into problems with the wiring. Hopefully, someone that has it installed correctly can trace the wires on their car so that others using the F/IC can verify if something is wrong with the wiring on their car. |

Cool...I will be doing the same and would like to compare notes at some point. It would be nice to completely replace the stock ECM but doing so would take more time and cost a lot of money trying to figure out Honda's implementation of the CAN protocol.
The one limitation with the setup would be that the stock ECM will likely trigger the check engine light and throw some codes since it won't see all of the sensors and control the running state of the engine. I'm hoping that some of the unused outputs can be used to send data to the stock ECM to keep it happy. I have heard also heard that almost every Dodge Viper running the MoTeC uses the same kind of configuration. I'll have to check those boards as well to see how the wiring was done and if they were able to keep the stock ECM happy at the same time without triggering codes or a CEL. |

Good luck. Have to wait and see in the next few weeks how the stock ECU handles the Haltech. I will keep you updated once it's installed.

The stock ECM will likely not like the signal changes with the new tune so I'll probably have to either see if the programming in the ECM can be modified to accept the changes or have certain ranges turned off so that they don't trigger a DTC or CEL when an OBD-II scanner is connected. |
