Blown MOTOR with Greddy Turbo!!!

Whats up guyz? Im a new member, but ive been floating around here for a while reading the Threads. ANYWAY let me get right to the point! This happend about 3 weeks ago and i had the kit on my car for a little over a month... I installed the Greddy turbo kit on my 06 SI. I installed the Greddy RS blow off, and an ebay Test pipe with non foulers. i hooked up a cheap boost guage for the time being so i can drive the car with the Greddy base Map. I ordered the AEM A/F guage and the AEM Boost controller to match it so i can go to RPM in NYC and get my car tunes at 10psi. I finally get my Guages on a Thursday and i was waiting for the weekend to install them. On that same day i got my guages i decide to go to the store. i was in 3rd gear and at 7000RPM i heard a loud BANG!!! and something under my car Shatter!!! i stepped on the clutch instantly and all i could see was black smoke in the rearview mirror. I let my car coast into a shopping center and a guy pulls up next to me and says there was fire coming from the back of my car!!! I open the hood and there was oil and peices of my block everywere!! I called a tow truck and got the car towed back to my house. I took the motor apart and it looks like a spun a bearing and snapped a rod. It made a HUGE hole in the front of the block and small one on the back of the block. i bent 2 rods, and cracked one valve guide.

So instead of installing my guages that weekend, i spent a day researching what i should do.... ALL my friends told me i should do the K24 Frankenstin Swap! i said F$%& it! That same day i ordered a 02 Crv motor and while i waited for that to arrive i took my head to a machine shop. they said it looks fine theres a few nicks where the piston hit , but they can shave a few layers off. Im planning to stay turbo, but now since im rebuilding i may as well build it up for turbo!!! im going to do it right the first time!

Bore/Hone/Sleeve (can handle 55 PSI) K24 block 1mm bigger from 87mm to 80mm $1190
9.0:1 CP forged Pistons $500
Eagle Rods $400
Eagle Head bolts $110
Brian Crower Dual Spring and Titianium Retainer $360
Brian Crower polished steel valves $280
Oem Valve seals $20
Cosmetic head gasket 88mm 1.016mm thick
ACL Race Bearing for Rods and Main $120
Send out K24 oil pump to KMS to modify it to support higher revs $135
Sillicon Bronze Valve Guides $70
Exedy Hyper Single Stage III Clutch and Flywheel Kit $1050
I didnt get new injectors let, im look at 650cc or higher $400ish
New Walbro fuel pump
Fuel return line kit, so far blueroadster's kit looks like a winner!
New Crv timing chain $100

Thats all i have so far..

Status: The block should be back from the machine shop at the end of next week. and the rest of the heads internals should be in by mid next week. so ill have the head together by the time i get the block back.

I just want to make sure that my motor can handle a lot of power, im planning to boost atleast 18 PSI on this greddy kit. Maybe in the summer ill get a bigger turbo maybe a garret and 3in intercooler piping.

Any Help or suggestions will be greatly appreachiated

Keegan

PS once i figure out how to post pics ill post some up!

im no pro at this. but from what i've read, arent u supposed to get it tuned as soon as u install it? i thought the greddy base map was mainly only for you to drive to your tuner's place.

Sorry to hear that!! Good luck with the new build. There are several members on the forums that did the K24 with Z3 head and where successful but haven't seen them around lately. Do a search and you should be able to find there tag name and PM if you have questions. Are you going to use the Greddy kit with the new setup? I personally would have spent the money on a sleeved K20 block since your lowering the compression to 9:0 compression.

im going to keep the greddy kit and get bigger injectors and see what kind of number i make, if i dont like the numbers ill get a garret turbo and use emanagement for now. I got a K24 block that i am sleeving and im boring it out +1mm so hopefully ill be around 2.5L, the compression in that block will be 9.0:1.

Im just wondering what you mean? A k24 block will help make more power and torque due to higher displacment...

Do yourself a favor and stay away from RPM NYC for tuning...with the few amount of turbo Si's in the area, they already have a reputation of blowing them up.

If you're looking for a reputable tuner on the east coast tristate area who actually has a dyno, check out evans tuning :: efi tuning specialists ,

base map it seems... the base map is meant to get you far enough to get to a tuner. It really sucks bro i hate hearing about stuff like this, especially since i have the same kit but hey look at it this way:

cars dont break they present us with opportunities to upgrade =)

good luck bro

i suggest you do a little more homework before you drop all that money and think that little greddy turbo is going to do any good at 18psi

well if he is really planning on doing this fully built k24/k20 then i would say that he does have that kind of money. So either he was just too lazy to get it tuned, didnt think it needed to be tuned...or the new project is just a dream.

Either way, sucks you blew the k20
