How many boost gauges do we need for the basic, but safe set up? one for the boost level(psi) and another for what? oil pressure? and where do people buy those pillars to mount the gauges?

well im going to assume you meant how many gauges....b/c youll only need one boost gauge but other than that the only other gauge you really need i think is air/fuel...thats prolly all ill be running. oh and the only place ive seen those pillars is on ebay..but thats not a good idea since we have air bags in our pillars

Then I reflashed the fic for new software and it ran a little better but is still all over the place. I am hitting above 6psi and it is taking out a lot of fuel. We changed some numbers so it was steady from idle to 3000 rpms in park. Then we went out to try to street tune it and the program when opened was using 100% of the computers memory. So we are somewhat stuck until monday comes around and we can call aem and ask for help. We talked to aem on the phone yesterday and the said to work on the numbers on the maf page and zero out the map page. So as of right now it is running fine in first second and third when not hitting boost. We also let the computer sit there for about 20 min so it could load the gauge window which needs to be opened so we know exactly where on the maf page we were with rmps and volts so we are able to add or subtract numbers in rough area while driving around. The window never loaded. It starts to, then it freezes.
I think the new version of the AEM software may be causing your laptop to freeze. Either that, or it is possible you are running Windows Vista and there is a compatibility issue. Niether TSI or us have heard of the AEM software freezing up the laptop under normal conditions. Maybe try using a different laptop running the newest version of Windows XP.

Please keep us updated with any progress you make. I will try to talk with TSI soon and see if they have any other suggestions.

Unless you are a experience tuner (even they get it wrong some times), off the top of my head a: boost, EGT, wideband, fuel, and oil pressure are a must.

Great job on the install. Looks clean.

HOW THE F*** DID YOU HOOK THE BOOMSLANG HARNESS INTO THE ECU!!!! This is killing me right now!

Update: Okay, you have the cut the boomslang harness (the one with the solid triple connector). The two on the side closest to the firewall stay together and the other one goes off on its lonesome near/under the battery. It is a pain the ass move everything out of the way and make sure the wires aren't getting pinched. Boomslang should make the green wires much shorter (like half an inch long).

Now, how to get it through the firewall...hmmmm.

BTW, the bypass cable works great!

ok..... i am lost... pretty sure that the car does not need a fuel gauge...it comes factory... on even the lowest model... As far as an EGT.... when you are tuning you dont HAVE to know what your exhaust gas temperature is.... for tuning you will want a WideBand, and a Boost gauge. you can get an oil pressure if you want... you dont tune by oil pressure so that makes no difference...

grill is fine but the rims don't match the grill or the color of the car. So tell me... Is she as sleeper?

Bypass Cable?
Yes... the Boomslang Harness is a pain to get on I cut mine and you want the one connector to sit down in that corner next to the battery. It would be a pain to find a new mounting position for the ecu so yes I went through the same thing. You should not have to worry too much about the wires getting pinched. I did not have too much trouble cutting and moving them out of the way. As long as you get the ecu back on the bracket, the harness stays in place and is not getting pinched in any way.

Yes and no. The IC stands out a lot haha. It is temporary for now. I would take out the mesh if the ic filled the whole front air dam but once you install the kit and see how everything fits... there is not much hope to put a bigger intercooler in there. I actually really like how it looks though.

I would say about 3-3 1/2 ft. And for the boost gauge I got a universal 2'' gauge cup to mount on the steering column. I really like how it looks there. I was thinking about putting it farther back but the gauge covers that corner more which is not too big of a deal because the lights back there are door ajar ect. but its nice to have everything visible.
