Side Mount Intercooler?

Hi all, just wondering if it would be possible to have a side mount intercooler rather than a front mount on the new Si's (when a turbo kit is finally released of course). I know that the 2nd gen DSM's had these stock and were running with 15psi already. If Honda's can run 8psi with stock internals, is a front mount absolutely necessary? Or will a side mount suffice/fit?

Not sure if it'll fit. There's isn't a WHOLE lotta room in there to work with. Plus, side mounts IC's in my experience aren't as efficient as front mounts, which are away from the heat of the engine bay and moving parts.

May I ask why side mount? Thinking about damage to the front?

Partly because of the cost of front end damage with a front mount.... but mostly because I want the sleeper look. =)

if your going to run a sidemount i'd look into running an aftermarket side mount such as the ones produced for 1.8 vw jettas/golfs 300z's rx7's or eclipse's

honestly though i wouldn't suggest it as there is a reason these are the first to be removed and replaced. and honestly and intercooler is a part of the kit that is not a key component if your wanting stealth run an air to water intecooler inline or no intercooler at all as 8psi shouldn't really create that much heat as a gt28rs is the biggest turbo i would consider for this sized motor.

oh ps. my shop should be opening soon and i will be fabbing a kit up for my 06 si and my srt-4 may possibly be making a long journey to full-race for a prototype car

if anyone has any turbo related questions i've been working on turbo cars for a while :P

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.

My friend has a 2g DSM and the first thing he did was change the stock intercooler to just an aluminium pipe to cool the air a little better. Others also seem to change it out completely and put on the stock Supra side mount which seems to work fine as well. But as Skittles mentioned, the question here is space.

well on the shop i'm not certain yet i'm hoping to be going in with the owner of the company that sponsors my srt-4 as he will be moving 2-3 hours from my house so the move wouldn't be a big deal so if that happens it will be near springfield mo

if not it will either be in topeka ks, (current city of residence) or in houston texas, (old residence) as i have a friend with a shop there that i'm trying to convince to start doing the performance end of the market.
