Paying for forced induction??
Hey I was just wondering how do you guys spend so much money on turbos and superchargers. I mean i know that the little bolt ons add up but man.. 5,000 dollars at once??
I would really like to go f/i some day but i cant stand dropping 5,000 dollars in one day. So my question is. Do you most of you guys put it on a credit card? or possible get loans?? I think the only way i could live with buying something like that is doing low monthly payments. |

Theres alot of ways in going about it. I can speak from experience, because ive had 2 cars that i spent 10k + on, and now the si will be # 3 You can: Get a loan Refinance your car Slowly put away money until you get 5k Sue someone for hitting you in an accident win the lottery get a better job sacrifice other toys for a year etc. Theres many ways to save, and if you combine a few, you'll get there faster, lol |

Bad idea, but just remember DO NOT BOOST ON A BUDGET. Whatever you plan on spending, MAKE SURE to have about 1500 bucks as cushion money. You know, for those " just in case" things. You never know what problems / issues / or matinance that will arise. |

I'm in the same boat as you man, I want to turbo my Si, but am paying school loans + credit cards off and bills. I'm putting a comfortable chunk of my pay checks into savings, cause using credit or loans is just going to continue to build debt (once you hit those "just in case" things).

Ive always believed that if you have to resort to using a credit card to get something that you cant afford with cash that you have saved, then you dont need a credit card in the first place. This is how so many americans are in debt way over thier ass.
Personally iv had money saved for quite some time, not just saved for the S/C but money that iv saved over several years. Some advice, Unless your financially able to deal with the expenses of a decent turbo setup then i wouldnt dare put it on a credit card if you cant afford to pay it off. A decent turbo set up can run well over $5000 depending on what you want to get out of it. You just have to be prepared to pay for the screw ups that could occur down the road. And if your already in trouble with credit card debt + all the other debts of life then you'll find your self in a tight spot eventually. Last edited by liquidr1; 10-17-2007 at 10:42 PM. |

i personally buy absolutely everything on my credit card.....reason being is because I have no other means of balancing my money because I don't use a checkbook because they are fairly impractical around where I live, almost nobody takes personal checks anymore so I don't have anything on me to balance with. So I check my online balance every week to see how much I have spent getting items and cash and then at end of month the credit card auto transfers full balance from checking account via online check...this way I don't build debt and also build credit just in case! and get rewards

The best thing i can tell you is to move out of California, it is to expensive out there. and they have to many regulations on the cars.
and please dont use a credit card to pay for the turbo, because if anything happens to the car the turbo will not be cover. |

Listen to this advice, please.

With patience, you can get a great job doing what you love, and start to make real money. Money that you can save, invest in, and turn around and make more money, without being in debt. Right now, I could cash accounts out and immediately pay for a turbo or s/c, and still have retirement, savings, vacation savings, and college funds for two kids left over. I only have that because I was patient. Don't get me wrong, I have my share of lots of spontaneously bad purchases too! But why bother spending the money? I see now at +35, that the more I save, the better off I am (see my example above). It's better to invest in your life than invest in your car. But hey, it's your money--throw it away however you want. |

To the OP: have you considered going Comptech S/C at all. If your determined to have boost but on a limited budget i think Comptech would be the way to go. Many guys here including my self have it and its the best reliable boost option out until better tuning/ Redshift comes along. Comtech S/C = Hassle free peace of mind boost for a decent cost. + Stage 2 is coming soon so if want more boost it will be possible. |
