boost gauge help

iv searched the forums and i really cant find anything im looking for. I guess some of you will think this is just ricer, but im interested in adding just a boost guage to my comptech setup.

i dont really want that fancy AEM digital gauge thats like $280. Im just looking for a simple guage that reads maybe up to 10-15 psi (incase i ever decide to upgrade to comptech's stage 2 and up the boost) and a decent way to mount it. I like the AJP dual gauge holder but i dont plan on purchasing a wideband A/F monitor. So a dual gauge holder isnt in my interest. However i dont want to just have a random guage bolted to the dash somewhere. I want a way to mount it that looks professional yet somewhat concealing.

Can you guys point me in the direction of some decent boost gauges with a decent price range.

I looked at some at www.autometer.com but couldnt really find a suitable mounting solution.

Ive got mine posted in the lower left "cubby hole" on the driver side. Its hidden from others but I can see it. I turned it sideways so I can see it in the range it operates.

It is not made by AJP, the gauge holder is made by autometer and you can find it at summit.com

the racing accesories website.

What?! I'm sorry, I mean no offense, but imo, they suck bad. I would look for defi or something. When I had my rx7tt, it came with autometer gauges and they were completely inaccurate. To each his own though. I just wouldn't though.

i have always heard that defi are better. Jeremy are you getting a boost guage for your car? I was wanting to get that and a wideband just to see where i am at. I know its kinda pointless to have one on a s/c but i really have no clue how much boost i am making. It would be nice to have an idea. Where would we hook it up to the s/c?

I used the Greddy universal mount. It's similar to the Apex Vafc type mount. Looks great and swivels, cheap too at only 12 bucks. There's also a thread in the FI section for pics of gauges installed.

I will have to find that out as well.
I would like to use defi gauges since they're the same color as our red gauges and they're known as being great. I wanted to do dual din setup and have an aftermarket head unit that was all red and then either below or above it have the triple gauge setup from defi. Have the a/f, boost, and maybe oil pressure gauge. It's something I was thinking about, but will probably cost quite more than I want to spend. Really, I think I only need the boost gauge and could just mount that on the a pillar or something.
Does anyone know if they have the single gauge mount for the steering wheel area? Maybe I could make a hole somewhere and just put the gauge there. I was thinking about the hazard button location and maybe move the hazard button somewhere else. I'm not sure. I'll probably copy what someone else does.

i like the summit racing on because its very low key. I dont want people to see them but i also want to be able to reference them easily if need be.

Robear is selling the electronic GReddy boost gauge that I have for only 160.00. It's awesome and really easy to install and it's red so it matches the dash lights. And why is that rice to have a boost gauge? You should have one in any car that has any type of FI. Especially on a car that was not FI from the factory. It will aid you tremendously in diagnosing problems that might arise with boosting and fuel problems. I can't believe you don't already have one. Check this thread out. It has a lot of pics of gauges in boosted cars. Turbo civics post your gauges on the inside of your car!. This should help you. Look at my gauges. The GReddy one is the boost gauge. I love it. It's extremely accurate and simple. And it's electronic so it is easy to install. Youjust need to tap a vacuum source and install the MAP sensor and run the wires into tha cabin and plug it in. If you want I can take pics of my setup under the hood for you. Just let me know bro...

Yea they are but they are big money. I looked into them and I just couldn't justify the money. Plus 99% of then are metric. I really don't have time to translate measurements at WOT when I'm trying to adjust fuel delivery and timing in the car with my laptop on the passenger seat. Lol...... My GReddy gauge is sweet though. For the money they are probably the best buy out there. Electronic gauges for under 200.00 are hard to find. Especially ones that are good quality. You van find plenty of mechanical gauges out there for cheap but they require all kinds of hoses and lines and crap run into the cabin. PITA if you ask me.

eGauges.com - VDO, Auto Meter, Defi, Isspro, Cyberdyne and Classic Instruments Gauges has a good listing of what boost gauge are out there. I have no idea about buying from them and probably wouldn't recommend it (buy from a supporting vendor here) but it gives you an idea of whats out there.

Defi are very nice. Last Autometer Cobalt i had read about 7psi off

Yea, I specifically had my tuner reference my boost gauge against the boost gauge from the dyno to make sure it was accurate and it was dead on. Off by 2 tenths. His was reading like 10psi and mine was just under 10. The needle was just under the 10psi line. The only thing is my needle will bounce a very tiny bit because the kid i bought it from didn't install the tiny orifice in the line before the sensor so it gets a little choppy at full boost. But not enough to really matter.
