Cool Question on Turbo(ing) the K20Z3

I just recently bought a new 2007 TW Si Sedan and am seriously considering boosting. My main concern is how long should I let the engine break-in for on all stock mods before throwing a turbo on?

Also I'd rather do everything all in one shot such as clutch, maybe new fly wheel, etc. I'm leaning towards the Greddy kit and not AJP just cause of what I've read on here about the ease of Greddy install, let me know what you guys think.

Thank you

AJP is an easier install ....I would of boosted when I hit 1500 miles,
thats where I felt safe..but I boosted at 15k miles...are you installing yourself?....goodluck in your choice

My vote would be greedy. I'm not in too a lot of power. Torque with the greedy kit is a big improvement.

As for miles I would say 1000-1500.

I wont be installing it myself since I don't have my own tools to do so or the knowledge I'll let someone else do that. I should have 1500-2k miles on it by December hopefully I'll be leaving for Marines basic training then and will be there 3 months getting around $1800 a month for 3 months, so Ill be boosting on my return. With having that $5400 give or take a little depends if I spend any, what else should I do at that time?

I'm biased since I have the AJP kit, but would do it again. The one thing that I really do not like about the Greddy kit is that you have to remove the front bumper reinforcement beam so that the intercooler will fit. If you get the Greddy kit, I hope you never have a collision in the front. Heck, I would even be suprised if your insurance company would cover all of the damage if they found out that the beam was removed.

Totally off subject but if you are planning on boosting with the money you make from boot think again...

For E-1 with less than 4 months of service, basic pay is $1203.90..they will take out all kinds of stuff too.. GI bill is like 100.00 a month plus social security/taxes not to mention the stuff you need.. nothing is free lol..i forget how much the dress uniform is but i know its a couple hundred dollars just to get one in working order I apologize if i shouldn't be posting this here but I don't want him relying on a paycheck that is never going to come

Another thing you need to consider is shipment, although the gov will pay for you to ship one vehicle each time you PCS they are really strict on shipment..i am not 100% on what your allowed to have and not have and still get them to pay for shipment.. a friend of mine had a neon that had a aftermarket spoiler.. just to get it shipped he had to go to the junk yard and swap trunks out

Right now im stationed overseas and had to buy the car in the states and have it shipped here... for a 07 si coupe without navi or summer tires they wanted 36,000.00 plus taxes etc... talk about robbery! lol so in short (after writing a book) my recommendation is wait until you have your assignment (even though you can always get defered..some people get to their new base and find out they have been defered) but you dont want to get it boosted then go some place you have no chance of getting it tuned or even looked at by anyone decent if something should go wrong.

Am i going to boost? You bet! My car should be here soon...only problem is there is only two car shops on the entire island that does that kind of work..and they are both owned by the same person so you can imagine what the prices look like

Once again I apologize for writing a book, and for typing out all this off topic stuff If you have any question about bases or anything let me know!

Just leave the dumb privates be. I see e2's rolling around in Escalades all day. You can get good deals on the repo lot in 3-6 months.

Some of those dumb E2's are better with their money than you. I got out as an E5 and had plenty of E2-3 friends that were smart with their money and it showed. Smarter than the E7's that filed for bankruptcy.

Back to the topic at hand. I'd recommend boost. The only replacement for displacement...is BOOST!!!

I like how you took that cheap shot then tried to make it look like you were getting back on topic. Funny.

I don't think I was talking about all privates. Please point out where i said this.

And chill out. Quit taking things personal, it's ok if your a dumb e2. I know a lot of them. They are my friends.

Back to topic...Boost Good

I wouldn't skimp on the quality of products when you're plunging in the territory of forced induction. I'd go with the AJP kit.
