which parts...

hey, im new to this forum. glad theres somewhere i can look for all the information on my car.

i was wondering what parts of a turbo kit have to be CARB certified? i may be interested in expanding on a kit, but all of this seems like itll be tough since im in california. im just looking for power thatll still be legal. any input?

Pretty much the whole kit. Greddy is the only one with a CARB legal kit at the moment to my knowledge. Comptech will be producing their CARB legal super charger again once they get up and running. Jackson Racing has a S/C kit too, but i don't know if its CARB legal yet (all of the other ones they make are legal) If you had a turbo in cali and got your hood popped, i'd be willing to bet you get a free pass to go see the Smog Referee regardless if its CARB legal or not. If it is CARB legal, you would pass the smog ref.

how long could it take for them to get the CARB certification? im in no hurry to turbo, but itd be nice to have an idea.

also, how much whp can this greddy kit have? im dreaming of 100 more whp, are these dreams unattainable if i want my car legal in this state(CA)?

It could be a week or it could be never.
I sent them an e-mail and asked if they even started the process yet. They said they are looking into it. Sounds like they didn't even start yet if you ask me...

My bad, i hella thought it was CARB legal, sorry. Comptech used to get their products CARB legal before they even went on sale. They must know somebody in the CARB. I think the office for CARB is in Sacarmento and Comptech is a town over in El Darado Hills so maybe thats how they do it because they are that close. Greddy is way down in LA and there is a long standing Nor Cal So Cal rivalry, so maybe CARB doesn't like them because they are from So Cal.

ill probably rebuild a porsche engine with my dad before i go turbo... so i guess ill give the companies 2 or 3 years for the CARB. that and the lack of a job really hinders any chance of buying a turbo.

anyone here deal with CARB certified kits? is it possible to swap the turbo itself while keeping the "certification" on the kit? just for a visual test if a cop wants to pop the hood

Just move outta Cali! It's so much easier that way! Never had to deal with anything CARB legal...but I'd imagine that you'd need to present a certificate or something along those lines.

Anyone with more info?
