Help: Installing Gauges

Well.. I have my gauges in.. and I'm gonna try to save a few pesos installing them myself.. with help my mi amigo ayenoc and hopefully if Matt ever gets back.. lol.
In any event, I was hoping some of the people here.. Honda06si.. and others that have done this themselves, or just plain know anything could give me a few pointers / take pics of running lines, tricks of the trade, ANYTHING. :]. Thanks guys.

why exactly do you need the gages, just for looks? or did you add a turbo or nitrous and not list it in your mods?

I installed my gauges myself. What questions do you have? Where are you planning on mounting them? I am using the AJP Dual gauge pod myself. Ask away :)

Ask away...I traced all of the wires through the system and can give pointers, but need more specifics as to what wires you are looking to connect. FYI, the TPS is the only one that I have come across thus far that you need to tap from the engine bay (it routes directly to the ECM due to the DBW and has no output back to the cabin area).

Yeah, I'll be using that. Basically, I dont know anything besides the instructions that come with the kit. I'm sure Matt will be able to decipher them a lot better than I can as he knows a little more about boost than me, as I'm still a noobie :].. not too smart eh? but uhh.. yeah.. I'd like to know as much as you're willing to tell me about installing the gauges :].. I know where they go.. but the lines... no idear.. there are pics in the "retro your own navi"... i guess you could use those are refference :]

Hehe, well, for power I tapped into the rear power socket power wire... once you get the console off, it's easy to get to. Just make sure they are wired in parallel... I also used the black ground wire on the rear power outlet for the ground on the gauges. What other questions do you have? I didn't read any of the instructions, sorry... Blueroadster is a wealth of information, as his setup is def. more complicated than mine. Go install the gauges, and get back to us if anything is really stumping you. Do you drive an Si? Are you going boosted?

Not trying to promote my thread.. but I'm the r18 in Cali for AJP. My car knowledge is miniscule, :], but I'll have some good help of friends. I'll get in contact with them, and see all who is going to be there for MOD DAY, but hopefully someone highly knowledgeable can make it :].. I'll trade them for some skills of my own.. like free photos and sigs , lol. This all sounds so hard to me as I'm so new to everything, but I'll look back in a year or so and laugh at myself .

And the world will laugh with you. Well, some will laugh at you too. Why not just have AJP install the gauges then, since they are doing the turbo? I'm sure they wouldn't charge you labor, since they're not gonna turbo your car without gauges; wouldn't be safe. They could teach you at the same time. I'm sure you are going to learn a ton of new info at AJP.

Guess you really don't have questions about the wiring then.

Whatever you do, just try to do a clean install and let me know if you have any questions (in which case, I will help where I can).

Sorry Jeshua... I don't know where I was being vague... I just fiured that since AJP was doing your install, they would be doing your gauges too. Unless they aren't doing your install, but I got the impression that they were. Check the AJP message board. They have a good writeup of the Dual Gauge holder... basically follow that. Sorry if I was confusing earlier.

Well.. a shop in cali thats affiliated with hondata will be doing the install. I'll pay them if its a worthy thing.. but I've heard its simple.. so I'd rather do it myself and save the 150.. :].. lemme look up the install they have =o.

edit: looked at their install.. hopefully matt will good a good look at the wiring and see exactly where they're run, the inside work looks easy, I just dont know where everything runs to :], anyone got pics on that? :] Ive looked for pics.. but it wasnt a walk in the park... and if you guys could somehow make the exact wire circled or w/e... that'd be most appreciated.. I feel some rep in store :].. but uhh.. I'd like to hopefully make a DIY for it just in case there is anyone as dumb as me :].. the instructions may explain everything well.. but I just want to be sure on everything before I go ahead with everything. And.. when you run the wires past the firewall.. is it easy to find the wires, or do you need some kind of taped wire to help guide it ? It looks like I wont need to remove any dash to do this... looks great :]

sorry jeshua i just now found this thread. however im sure both blueroadster and galaxygrey could help you out more than i could. however i will go take pics now of my gauges and wires and you can ask questions from there

i know the boost gauge power wire has to be wired to an ignition wire that has constant power, only when the key is turned twice

i dont know how much this will help. but here goes

i had to make a hole in the plastic behind the gauges to run the wires

there is like 2 miles of wire so i just zip tied it all up underneath the dash

heres a pic of where it runs through the firewall

and if you look close you can see the blue ignition wire where i got my power for both gauges from

as for the ground, i put it under the console where the shifter is at.

so what questions do you have
