So what do you do when something goes wrong?

I've been entertaining the idea of a comptech S/C on low boost for a bit now that they're coming back. The reliability of it plus the extra power down low that I realllllly want in the SI is making it seem worth while.

The only problem I have really (besides it nearly breaking the bank right now) is what do I do if something goes wrong?

I live in a place where there really is no car tuning or anything of that sort. The closest I have to a car enthusiast shop is a guy who works out of his house who buys you performance parts and helps you pick them out, but doesn't do installations/dynos/etc.

If something were to go wrong, what do you do? Obviously I coudln't just take it to the honda dealer, so I'm really not sure what I'd do in the event that the S/C crapped out on me or something to that effect.

Anyone else in this same situation?

If i were you i would google search your area for performance shops for imports and just order your own parts and drive it to them or you can order it through the shop and pay them the installation and tuning, and then you have the drive back to test it and everything, thats what i would do. And if its installed correctly especialy at LOW boost there shouldnt be any problems that just creep up on you they should be noticeable the first drive

Edit: Even if its a far drive you see some other 8thcivic members driving all the way to AJP which i think is just soo freakin awesome

If you live anywhere near the cities, you have plenty of options.

comptec and honda have pretty close relations with each other.

Hah I WISH I could take it to my dealership!

I'm not sure if the techs are this dumb (they seem like an alright bunch of guys), but the woman who sold us the car is a complete moron.

First she tried telling me the entire engine warranty would be shot if I through on an exhaust because I was messing with the exaust flow.. which COULD potentially be true, but she neglected to agree that they had to prove it was the problem with the MMA.

Then.. when I took it in to get my plates on it, she noticed my shift boot and said "Oh my.. you know if you have a problem with your shifter now, we can't warranty it?" I was like "Oh yeah.. because I disassembled the whole shifter and whatnot, right?"

call your saleswoman and tell her that her mother should have swallowed her.
Because she is a waste of life.

To answer to original question:

1. Lower your head.
2. Place head between legs.
3. Pucker lips.
4. Kiss you a** goodbye.

Unless of course you have a sympathetic dealer nearby as everyone has pointed out.

That's all bunk. All you need to do is get tough with them and shove the MMA in their face. They know they can't do a damn thing unless they prove the part you put in caused the problem. My dealer started shit with me and I got tough and guess what....no charge.

Learn to work on your car by yourself. Its a really steep learning curve but you'll learn so much that you won't need a shop to help you. By installing everything yourself, you get a grasp on how everything works and if there is a problem, you can pinpoint it yourself. If the engine throws a rod or cracks a piston, pull the kit off, put it back to stock and make a warranty claim.

I would like to say that sc are very reliable. More reliable than turbos. I have a 95 gsr with a jr sc and it runs great. The important thing here is to make sure the person who puts it on and tunes it knows what he is doing. A good tune is the best thing so if you cant get that good tune, dont waste the money to have the sc. Good luck to you.

In my experience reliability is very relative. Any system, be it turbo or super, that is properly installed, tuned, and maintained can last the life of your car.
