what can the k-series handle???

this is a PDF i found for u guys talking about pistons and rods and sleeving and so on... should shed some light on the topic for some and others u may feel dumb...lol

http://www.erlperformance.com/techbr...20Design_1.pdf

a slight interpretations for you guys of the above info.

"I didn't catch it until just now, but everything I've ever read said the sleeves in a K block were iron, not aluminum. The pdf you posted seemed to indicate that as well as it was comparing their ductile iron to cast iron. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.

In any case, it's time for a bit of interpolation with the numbers from ERL's pdf. They note that cast iron will yield around 45,000 psi (the Von Mises stress). They simulated 75,000 psi at 45psi boost for a rated 1200 hp. They said that a standard N/A k24 reaches 1200 psi combustion pressure, where as their 1200 hp one reached 6000 psi. Let's assume for a moment that the stress psi and cylinder pressure psi are related, in some way, if not linear, close to it. A little math would put the stress psi of 600hp or around 22psi at around 75000 * .6 = 45000 psi.

That would seem to indicate that the stock sleeve would start to yield at around 600hp."

a thread for more reference can be found here.

I found out about the cast iron sleeves when I went to Abucus Racing to research options for my build up. That was the first of many things I learned that day that has me totally amped about making this car a mini monster.

We have time and time again run stock K series blocks to over 500whp without cracking a sleeve. nobody have as much technical data on the k series motors than ERL if you dont know them get out of the game.

preety good, i wouldnt worry about sleeves at all, the only thing u guys with FI kits really have to worry about is octane, due to the K's compression. Marvie, u might need to invest in a clutch preety soon. To make that much power and stay on the stock clutch is scary. Im also glad that u arent piggy backed anymore. I knew real tuning would get the SI far!

St00pid Fast ran over 570whp through a stock internal K20A2 for a while. It finally popped when boost spiked to well over 40psi and the motor couldn't take it. It was going to be a 600+whp pass.

thats what i thought that the sleeves were good for 600whp.

what about the rest of the internal?

torque is the big factor....
260wtq. and u need to start worrying about the rods cuz they'll most likely go first and according to the master kpro tuners that is the mark at which they'll begin to get week and maybe even fail sometimes...

pitons i need to do more research on...

but it's common practice to upgrade pistons and rods at the same time.

The argument about the sleeves being able to take 600 hp is a mute point when a connecting rod breaks. which are generally the weakest part ofthe stock internals.

How about a 800 WHP RSX on a motor that was built to be an NA motor. Yes, thats right this motor has 11.5:1 pistons. Right now it has stock cams and is running on E85 Ethenol fuel. The guy originally wanted to build an all motor car and had his motor built. He decided in the process that he wanted to end up boosthing so he kept the NA built motor and turboed the hell out of it. Here are the specs that were given on the setup current setup:

Now for the fun part..

With the help of Stan @ Fast-Turbo.com we put together a dual Bosch pump fuel system, 1600cc injectors with an FJO injector driver.
Full Race exhaust manifold
Precision PT67 P Trim ball bearing turbo .81 A/R
3.5" DP
Tial 44mm wastegate
Custom intercooler piping was built by Fernando @ st00pidfast
Baller Ass Wiggins couplers
Hondata Kpro
5 bar MAP sensor
Racepak dash

The car is currently going to to a much different setup. He is getting a custom divided, twin 44mm wastegate divided turbo manifold, the largest Garrett turbo currently made (GT70BQQ), a completely new custom Head designed and built by Endyne, IPS cams, custom IPS intake manifold, & a 200 shot of nitrious. Needless to say this thing is a beast. Once again the guys from Houston are doing it big. Plan to see it break 1,000-1,200 HP within the next few months.
