Crappy 140hp
Man... i hate the R18 engine. wait lemme rephrase that... I hate only having 140 horses!
I have a fully stock automatic civic ex. See im used to driving an Odyessy with the 240 horses n i love it! buh yesterday i felt so $#!tTy. I was passed twice yesterday by a Tc and a dodge minivan! Okay so in the afternoon i saw a Tc coming out of a gas station and he was coming up behind me and started to tailgate. then he decided to pass me, so i floored it. i gave him some comp, but then he eventually took me within 5 seconds... . i was like damn.... Then later on that night i was driving down the street minding my own business and then i saw some lights flashing me from behind that caught my eye. i saw that he going to overtake me, so i floored it... took me within 3 seconds . Yesterday i felt like i made a disgrace to the whole civic reputation.... sorry guys...I really want more horses, can someone gimme some advice as to how to gain more horses without ruining the warranty. I just basically want some faster acceleration, i don't really care about that top speed stuff. Thanks.. |

You want more horses? This generation Civic has an almost 25% gain in horsepower from the previous generation (about 12% if you refer to the EX hp gain) and you still want more? If you wanted a shit load of horsepower you should have gone with an Si with 197 hp or the Accord EX-V6 6-SPD with 244 hp...otherwise, your stuck.

You could have easily have gave him a run for his money if you had a stick. Automatic stinks for these kind of situations because there's a small lag when you slam the accelerator to find out what gear you want to be in and sometimes it's not in the right gear!
If you want more power.. the answer is simple, the regular R18 Civic isnt beefed up to be raced around. You should have probably considered an Si or something. Otherwise, look into a CAI and a cat-back exhaust (Magnaflow) and other sort of future mods. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with an econobox, sorry.

read the manual. its not good to be doing it, but if you want to
in the owners manual it says you can shift the gears, 1, 2 , D3, and D and accelerate just like a manual transmission without the clutch. Overdrive. autoshift. the acceleration is improved slightly if you time it well, but watch your transmission. |

I feel your pain. The 2006 civic is way more powerful than the 2005, and is great at conserving gas. Manual is more peppy than the automatic. Seems like cars continue to become more powerful each successive model. If you do get a more powerful car like the Si or V6 Accord Coupe with 6 speed MT, don't kick yourself about the drop in fuel economy. At my local dealership, a guy traded in is 2006 Civic EX to buy the Si model, and I was told he didn't lose much in the deal. Maybe something to think about. |
