Question for Joey (or anyone else that's had a wheel repaired)

Well, the title pretty much says it all. Friday night coming home from dinner I wasn't paying attention and hit the curb in my neighborhood with my front right wheel/tire. I basically drifted into the curb at around 15mph and heard/felt a loud crash and then bounced off the curb. Retarded I know, I am still so frickin pissed at myself, in over 16 yrs of driving, I've never curbed a wheel until two nights ago. Anyway, the Weds held up pretty good considering, looks like only a scratch/rough area about 4 inches long on the lip on that one wheel.

So....any ideas where I can get my rim fixed in Orlando????

I'm so paranoid that I messed up something else i can't see, but she seems to be driving straight, braking normally, etc. Anything I should get checked out just to be on the safe side? Thanks.

hmmmmmmmm, well i WOULD recommend you to my guy Glen Almeter... unfortunately the SECOND time around, i was unable to get him to assist me. so i used Color Recon the company/ppl that work on our lot thruout the week repairing wheels & hubcaps & whatnot on the used car lot. might want to look into Anthony of Color Recon if nothing else pops up.

unfortunately, Glen took a 2 week vacation from his job (sole proprietorship) & uhhh yeah, he was so behind on his accounts with local higher-end dealers that he is actually raising his prices & turning away like 80% of his business right now.

'tis a shame but considering the circumstances, im happy to hear the damage isnt TRAGIC!

ppl that were @ the meet today can vouch for the repair of my wheel via Color Recon.. it was top-notch definitely. :)

Hmm, alright, that's one option then. Joey, have you heard of a place called Turbax wheel repair Turbax - Locations they're here in orlando and some other forums recommended them highly. I'm intrigued because they offer pick up and delivery of your wheel from your house with a 24 to 48hr turnaround. (I'm impatient )

Oh, edit: any thoughts on anything else that might have been damaged?

yeah they are pretty reputable from what i hear (never experienced it myself or do i know any1 with personal experience however)...i would imagine its pretty pricey for the "convenience" factor tho eh?

i would say if you Si still drives straight, you dont have any rubbing, vibration & whatnot, just visually check out the suspension components & call it a lesson learned. my 2 cents.

Well, I think I'm gonna call them tomorrow am and get a quote on the repair. I'll let you know what they say. Yeah, I'll take another look at the front passenger suspension tomorrow and see if there's anything f'ed up in there.

From the sound of it, I was scared to look at the wheel when I got home, I really expected the rim to have more damage. I guess the Weds are pretty well made.

yeah def. race wheels ftw!! suuuper resilient!!

i really do feel ya on the curbing bullsh!t tho. 24 years old & ive NEVER curbed a wheel before the GPs. then i go & do it TWICE (BOTH front wheels different times) within a period of a mere 2 f*cking months. i just wanted to DIE the 2nd time around it happened.

i will say this with the utmost importance... NEVER. AGAIN.

Yeah, I've only had the Weds for a few months, man I am still so pissed! If I'd been paying more attention instead of f'ing with my seatbelt, I could have avoided the whole thing.

I figured I'd get a sympathetic ear from you Joey, although, I would rather not have joined the "I curbed my rim club" too. Oh well, I just need to get it fixed and then my baby will be healed.

I curbed mine 5 days after buying it.
I almost cried but luckily I am on stockies and the curbing wasn't bad at all.
Still pissed me off.

Well, I guess I'm in good company, lol. Well here's the update as promised:

I talked to the folks at turbax wheel repair, without seeing the rim themselves, they quoted me $115 to $150 to repair it. Murphy's law being what it is, that means $150 for me. Well, the wheel was $319 new from tirerack so paying almost 50% of the cost of the wheel to fix it seems a little steep. So, I think I'm going to try and touch it up myself and then in the next month or two, buy one new rim and then keep this slightly damaged one as a spare in case (God forbid) I really f up a rim on down the road.

Anyone know where I can get some grey/gunmetal touch up paint? I see on Subydude's website that they have the rota gunmetal touch up paint but it's $25 and I don't know if it'll match closely with my Weds. I couldn't find Wedsport touch up paint online to save my life.
